I think that is the problem... And why Trump and the rest of the nation has a good stand to not be happy. I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure these convicts are being held in a Federally funded facility that we all pay for as federal taxpayers. So Ca receives Federal appropriations that they can skim for other purposes per each prisoner. Only as long as they are still alive of course.

Maybe Newsome has forgotten Rose Bird. California Chief Justice that was recalled for overturning all death penalty cases brought to her court. In 1986 the voters removed her from office.

It costs over $100,000 per year to house & contain death row inmates in Calif.
Some death row inmates have been there OVER 37 years. Do the math-—it is a very expensive undertaking to keep these criminals alive.
I don’t believe that more than 3 people have actually been executed in those 37 +++ years. The “Hillside Strangler’ is still there. Many other stone cold killers that do not deserve 3 meals & comfort for such a long time.
Brown spent over $1 MILLION to ‘refurbish the death chamber & Newsom wants to close it.
Is there ANY politician anywhere in the other 49 states that can waste more $$$$$$ than a California Democrat???
