I’m something along those lines too.
“some lost their hair”
Fascinating. My family genetic history is that our males do not start losing their hair until they get into their 60’s.
Mine started falling out while at age 19 while in country. Up until I read your comment (and a few quick Google researches after that) I used to think Agent Orange did it.
I’ve recently read a historical document about Army psychiatry in Vietnam. I do not think the term “PTSD” was yet invented. They use the term combat stress.
The form of testosterone that causes balding is also the one we all have to jump start our puberty and make us men. For some, that form turns off for some decades, leaving us with hair. For others, myself included, we start losing it in our early 20s.
My mom’s dad passed at 95 with a full head of white hair. My mom’s brother passed early in his mid 20’s, photos show a full head of hair. I was bald by mid 20’s.
I suspected chloracne as while in Vietnam I broke out with my first case of acne, I mean real bad that left craters. My sibs never had this, and I never had it as an adolescent. To accompany the acne was excessive oiling on my head. Oil would run like sweat. This oiling subsided considerably when treated for Graves Disease 20 years later, which is also linked to Agent Orange.
6th grade teacher’s hair turned white overnight.
