I prefer to use a funnel and take the damned cap off the can.
Yes, the new EPA compliment cans suck. Much more fuel is spilled from these than the old cans. Thank you EPA for your insane ignorance.
Dependent on the new cans design a few deft moves with a hacksaw will make them like the old cans and much less fuel will be spilled.
“We are here from the government and here to help you!”
So why no consideration given to McGuyvering the plastic cans back into proper, normal functionality? If it’s broke, FIX IT!
Thank you!
Since then, my wife bought some which are the same but of plastic.
Incidentally, the Germans here have no idea that we call them "Jerry cans" or why. As I understand it, British troops found them in the African campaign, discarded by General Rommel's forces whom the English of course called "Jerry." The Brits recognized superior German engineering when they saw it.
I use a clear poly vinyl 5/8 inch tubing long enough for siphoning from the bottom of container to gas tank opening. You’d have to figure the height and support for the can to safely sit. As you suck on the hose ( no jokes please) you can see the gas coming and quickly insert the end of the tube in the port. It’s fast filling.
I read an article once which estimated that the British lost 25% of the fuel sent to North Africa due to leaks in their cheap tin fuel cans.
Yes, cans that spill gas all over thevplace, and toilets that save so much water they need to he flushed twice. Over grubberment at work.
Back in the late 90s I bought four of the old fashioned 5-gallon Jerry cans just like the ones we had when I was in the Army 30 years earlier. Someone told me “now or never,” libs are going to outlaw them. Oh, and don’t let the cops catch you with them strapped to the outside of your Jeep; they’ll confiscate them on sight. Don’t know about that, but I probably should’ve bought twice as many. Bastards.
Have you checked out the cylindrical all metal ones at Rural King with included attached funnel for around $25?
Without a doubt, just go straight for a funnel and be done with it.
I bought some pop in vents off of eBay and put them in all my gas cans. Then I took the guts out of the spring loaded mechanisms in the spouts. Now I can empty one in about 20 seconds.
I love the No-Spills. I use them for the little generator, the chainsaws and the weed eater. You can easily fuel up and not spill any. The containers also flow fast.
I got some metal Justrite safety cans (the come with and without pour spouts) from uline. My kids will inherit them!
Worth the money as the plastic ones don’t last that long.

None of these work for my little boat a 14 Carolina skiff. The gas tank is under my center console. I like to keep a 2 gallon on board which is up under the front deck. Theres an opening under the deck thats about 12 inches high therefore I have to have a low profile. I had a nice can with the old fashioned nozzle that I was able to use to refill my tank and fit under the deck. It started to crack and leak so I had to get something else that fit my criteria. These new safetty nozzles are a joke as you have pointed out. Its impossible to maneuver the can into the boats gas can and not spill all over. You need both hands to operate the stupid gas can so its impossible to balance it. I finally found the old fashion type I could use on eBay but it cost me an arm and leg because theyre rare. This article is so right. I just saw a new kind out that empties from the bottom. However I have the space requirement .
