Missing oral arguments isn't really the problem. Oral Arguments are mostly theater with no real impact on the eventual decisions. Justice Thomas is on record as being in favor of doing away with Oral Arguments entirely.

The real issue is that she's doubtless ingesting some fairly power drugs and painkillers that can seriously affect one's ability to function. If she's undergoing any chemotherapy (likely), she's probably in a 'chemo fog' half the day. My wife went through chemo, and I really wouldn't have want her making any momentous decisions whilst in a chemo fog.
