So this essentially is going back to the old fashion filibuster, no? And Mitch and the uniparty don’t have the cohones to do it? And I am surprised? Why do I even give a crap at this point, same **it new day, nothing has changed in the swamp but has been over 20 yrs, even Linsey has gone back to being a doucenozzle over Syria, it is time to go Galt or Amish, or something rather than banging out heads against the friggen wall, no pun intended..

The standing filibuster used to be the norm. It was abandoned in 1981 when Howard Baker, the first Republican Majority Leader in a generation, decided to try to update the Senate and make it a more gentlemanly, collegial place. The Republicans switched to a virtual filibuster in which both sides agreed to accept each other's verbal commitments and dispense with the tedious necessity of marathon sessions. Nice idea, except that it took Bobby Byrd about five seconds to seize the opening. Use of the filibuster, previously rare, became SOP. Both sides have escalated since then in an endless cycle, to the point in recent years in which a supermajority is required for almost anything. I'd restore the standing filibuster and see if that righted the balance before abolishing the filibuster entirely. Let the dems stand and read Das Kapital if that's what they want to do. The great advantage today, in the age of C-Span, is that it would instantly become clear to the public, and perhaps even our imbecile press, who is actually responsible for the shutdown.

The Democrats should be required to Filibuster just like they did the Civil Rights Act in 1964, when they are done talking Pass the Bill anyway.

You’re right, he doesn’t have fifty. In January, he might have more, but we won’t have the house.

Therein lies the problem. I don't think they have 51 votes.
And Mitch is desperately trying to hide that fact.

A small soundbite from Mitch. And then Chuck go on for a a good amount of time about Trump and “temper tantrum.” Fox. Unfair and unbalanced.

But on (P)MSNBC and CNN you won't find even the small soundbite, but a comment about what Mitch said from one of their Trump haters, followed by Schmucky.

The problem is the outgoing (finally) dems posing as republicans (Flake, Corker, etc) are not going to do the right thing and vote with republicans to get to that 51 vote threshold. They have shown their true colors and they are full-blown dems. Probably always were.

Short of using some kind of leverage against these back holes; I don’t see how this plan will work. I want it to; but can’t see it working with the RINO’s still in office.

One question. If the government stays closed; does the next congress get seated or do they have to wait until the gov is open again?

Apparently there are 4 or 5 Senators who will not vote for a Trump victory. We know about Corker and Flake, but I’m not sure who the others are. Does anyone know so we could put pressure on them?

Of course Joe Manchin said he would vote for a wall, but as long as the vote count of Republicans isn’t there to force a vote, he and possibly other Dems don’t have to honor their committments.

Getting the bill to the floor is irrelevant if there are not 50 votes to pass it - and there are not close to 50.

There won’t be a filibuster because the opposition can call the vote and win immediately.

Why do you all believe Senate Republicans will authorize a wall? They are against it, it’s the last thing they want, and they’re not going to make it happen under any circumstances.

There are five, and maybe seven, Republican Senators who are definite “no” votes.

How is McConnell supposed to make this happen?

“putting Mitch into the corner and admitting that he’s worthless might be a possibility as well.”

What do you imagine McConnell can do with 5-7 “no” votes in his caucus?
