Instead of watching the movie, I would recommend reading the original book, Bambi: A Life in the Woods by Felix Salten (London:Case, 1928), translated into English by Whittaker Chambers--yessiree, it is, indeed, that Whittaker Chambers.
Although it's a great book and was made into a fine move, which I last saw in the theater in 1958, Old Yeller (New York: Harper, 1956) is my least favorite of Fred Gipson's dog books. My favorite is Hound Dog Man (New York: Harper, 1947), which is long out of print and hard to find. And it won't go back into print any time soon unless it is rewritten to remove some of the language that today's snowflakes find offensive.
I also like Savage Sam (New York: Harper, 1962), the sequel to Old Yeller. The book, which I believe is still in print, is far more politically incorrect than the movie, which I last saw in a San Francisco theater in 1963.

Just checked——”Hound Dog Man” is at my public library.
.
This guy wasn't doing that though. He was taking their heads and leaving the rest to rot.
The only reason they are prosecuting him is because he didnt pay his hunting license fee/tax.
I don't fault the state for going after people who don't pay their fees. The fees that go back into habitat development and herd maintenance are generally some of the better managed of government money. As a hunter who plays by the rules, poachers like this annoy the hell out of me and I hope this guy loses his hunting and fishing privileges for life.
