It wasnt the lie, it was the betrayal which made it a lie. No good could possibly have come of that tax increase. Either it decreased the deficit, or it didnt. If it didnt, he had harmed the Republican brand by a bad decision as well as a betrayal of a promise. If it did, Reaganomics would get blamed - and the Democrats, as you say, brought back from the brink.He has much to answer for.
For sure I thought far less of him after that. In historical retrospect, I might as well have voted for Perot - not that a Republican presidential election vote in NY means anything anyway . . .
