Honestly I think Pelosi and Schumer are smarter than they !ook. They have to know that impeaching Trump means political suicide for 2020.
The Senate will never entertain removal for one of two reasons. Hopefully because they will not remove their own party’s president. But certainly because any attempt to remove Trump from office will precipitate a govt takeover by a group of current and former military to keep him in office.
The main goal is to tarnish Trump and to get the barely Trumpers to vote foe anybody but Trump.
In 2020 that is.

They will overplay their hand if they lose their base and that will never happen as long as they satisfy the subjective needs of millions by way of the dollars in the U.S. treasury.
(Their base is growing ever larger by the influx of « new » citizens and the increasing numbers of brainwashed young people.)
