Most folks (now days) have never worn a pair of real leather soled boots or shoes.
The have no idea how wet, cold, slippery, and miserable they can get in the rain or snow.
I was thinking that he got stuck in the mud - but yeah, filling up with water is likely as well.
If it were me, I’d rather they just filled up with water and I drowned. A lot quicker than getting stuck in the mud and then realizing the tide is coming in and it is getting dark. Then start to panic and struggle even more but only to sink into farther into the mud’s relentless grip as the murky water creeps toward your flaying arms.
Or - worse yet, sink chest deep into the mud and starve yourself of oxygen as the mud compresses your chest and you get less and less air with every breath. (I’ve heard of cases where the trench collapses, the buried guy is talking with his rescuers at first to get him out, but they can’t dig fast enough and he suffocates with everyone watching on.)
Camel Toe?
Is that why Sean/Shawn/Chonson?
I owned a pair of Raichle hiking boots that I waterproofed with wax, they were totally watering proofed.
Leather soles?
I’ve had Danner brand water proofed boots that worked a charm, but again, not leather soles.
Good point...no, they were yellow Vibram!
