Ocasio-Cortez is really a study in contrasts in some ways.
I just want to mention, she was working as a bartender. Nothing against honest work. But, she on the other hand, talks of having an economics degree from Boston University. Why, if she has a great college degree from a major university, was she not able to get a job/career appropriate to that education?
And for having an economics degree, it’s stunning that she doesn’t know how the unemployment rate is calculated.
And for having allegedly brilliant ideas about healthcare, such as Medicare For All, she claims it can be paid for in part, by all of the savings on funeral expenses we will experience, because far fewer people will die if only we had socialized medicine.
Don’t we wish!!
Decent Americans do NOT want Stupid coming to Congress!!!!
Ocasio claims that she moved back to the Bronx after college to help her mother. That might have dented her career prospects. Fair enough.
However, after allegedly coming in fourth in her class at Boston University, and majoring in both Economics and Foreign Relations, she quite clearly knows NOTHING about either subject!!!!
What’s wrong? Inquiring minds want to know!!
I am like you. I expected to see Dave Schultz checking Occasional Vortex into the boards and then pummeling her.
“...in this case, better an ignorant idiot that will disappear to the furthest back-bench then a mover/shaker who knows the DC games.”
I’m of two minds on that. An air head with power can be breathtakingly dangerous. The deciding vote woman who gave us the unrealistic CAFE fuel economy standards did so because she noticed the instantaneous reading on her car often hit 38 mpg. She said, “We’re already so close, let’s go for 54 mpg.”
Stupid people are dangerous. Stupid people with power, doubly so.
she quite clearly knows NOTHING about either subject!!!!

Before I discovered the internet I used to go to DMV to do my business.
I am pretty sure that BEFORE they started printing Drivers License info in 400 or so languages (Of course they raise OUR rates and taxes to do this) People were allowed to have an interpreter with them for the written exam.
Dont see where that can go wrong...<: <: <:

Sometimes folks just wait tables or bartend while awaiting a new position...
I met my Wife in Minnesota while I was working as the Bar Manager at a large resort and offered her a job as a waitress at the restaurant I managed in the winter at a Ski Resort in Montana...
She agreed and was quite surprised to learn that many of our waitstaff had Masters degrees and there were a few PhD’s as well - they just wanted to spend a winter skiing...
First time in her life she ever was a ‘server’ and she learned how difficult the job is...
She’s now a recovering Journalist who owns several businesses and has changed her party affiliation from D to R...
She also is a big tipper.
As for O-C (D) - I’m positive she never learned a Frickin’ thin from her time as a server - she’s just a rotten socialist!
Anthony Pappas, Republican
Elizabeth Perri, Conservative
Neither can win even with O-C and Crowley splitting the liberal vote (and either Pappas or Perri dropping out).
Has an elected representative ever declined election? What happens then?
The case of Mel Carnahan comes to mind; he died prior to election. I suppose officially that the (US Senate) seat was declared vacant and the governor appointed his wife until the next regularly scheduled statewide election.
In a Louisiana runoff, if the winner of the primary declines the runoff, the other candidate automatically wins. This happened in a local judgeship - I assume the same process might work in a US House race but I’m not sure.
Focus should be on electing Democrats to Republican seats.
He wasn't beaten by a fellow Demwit, he was beaten by a socialist. If elected, she'll be a constant source of embarrassment and humilliation to the Demagogic Party both in NY (city, county, state) and in the country as a whole. And she won't be reelected. So, I agree, don't vote for Joe Crowley. :^)
Similar case in Vermont - if a winning gubernatorial (maybe any state row office) candidate gets less than 50% of the vote, the election can go to the state legislature (maybe only the state senate?). However the 2nd place candidate waived his rights and allowed the 1st place candidate to win by default.
Again that’s not quite the same thing as winning a US House race and declining the victory.
It would appear the only comparable case listed (which they admit is not complete) is John Cantine. It appears that the seat was declared vacant and a new election was held.
