As much as CNN is salivating over the thought, nobody is going to shoot unarmed women and children at the border. They'll be detained and deported.
I see no reason to do so, get the leaders in the pack one way or another..

Eff these people - everyone wants a better life, but if we let in every Edith Cruz in the world who wants to come here then you will not only extinguish a good life for most of the 325 million or so who live here, you will extinguish our ability to innovate and give charity to others IN PLACE, and thus make the entire world worse off.
This garbage must stop - either we are a country, which necessarily requires enforceable borders, or we are not. THAT is our choice as a nation. Note that EVERY other country has made their own choice to enforce their own borders. Just saying.

Of course there are plans to defeat an invasion.
Many years ago we practiced defending Germany annually (Reforger).
Immediate surveillance,infiltration and psyops. Interdiction of supplies. Identify leaders and cause their arrest (already happening). Determine the probable routes and prepare interdiction and control devices- ditches, barbed wire funnels. Meet at the attack points with huge numbers of armed soldiers/ICE /Border patrol/. Separate women and children from men. Tear gas and the stink spray as necessary.
Undoubtedly well under way.
I’ve been thinking about that.
I suspect that a couple of F-16 making a low level supersonic run along the border, followed by a C-130 making a flare angel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mIEIZ2x1JE), will cause the women and children to break and run to the rear.
Some water cannon loaded with skunk water (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skunk_(weapon)) will take care of the rest.
Of course, we can always just let them in and have them move through a Disneyland style line. You know, the kind that keeps winding forever and is designed to not let you see that you have another 4 or 5 huge rooms to wait in. And after you are done and get to the front you realize that the bus you are getting on is heading back to Honduras.
We can seal the border. No Mexican truckers going north. No American tourist dollars going south. Tell Mexico we will completely collapse their economy unless they do something effective about that caravan.
Then watch the news footage of the Mexican Army machine-gunning the caravan.
And diapers and formula and porta potties and phone charging facilities and laundry and clothing and showers.
This caravan is as organic as a pack of Winstons.
Oh and lodging.
Is there an estimate of how much garbage this trek will generate? Will they hang on to it and dump it at our border?
Another thing I forgot.
Someone has to pick up behind them.
