I've not followed the case and have no opinion on exactly who did what to the victim. But for the record: I suspect the Turkish government knows everything that happens inside the Saudi Embassy, including every burp at the dinner table, and not just from electronic surveillance.

They probably have a pretty good idea of what goes on in our embassy as well.

Yes, it's probably assumed that our embassy is bugged. But since we know that, you would think we would either take countermeasures to defeat the surveillance devices, or at least reserve our more private acts for a place that we believe to be a little more secure.

I think that our leaders have to look at more things than “do we like these guys?” or “how much do our cultures have in common?” Clearly, the answers to those questions are “no, not really” and “precious little” - but our leaders need to consider what is in this nation’s best interests before considering whether we like someone or not.

FWIW, I despise them (as a nation and culture - even if a few of them might be decent people). I despise them both as a Jew and as an American. Yet, OTOH, I understand that both we and they have a common interest in hemming in or overthrowing a common enemy - Iran. For that reason ONLY, it is worth dealing with SA. Also FWIW, MbS is about the most US-friendly (which is to say, least anti-American) leader to come from there in pretty much forever. Throwing what looks to be like an up-and-coming 40-year relationship under the bus is probably not in our national interest...notwithstanding my personal preferences.

Oh, please. You have as much input as I do, given that neither one of us is likely a big wheel of any kind. We’re just normal guys with minuscule influence over policy. That applies to not just this matter and foreign policy in general, but pretty much every policy you can name. Please don’t play a victim, like the Democrats do. There’s enough of that crap on TV and on the internet every day.
