I think your account has several errors.
I believe it was the son that was left in the store.
The man shot was Christobal Lopez, 50 years old.
As for rendering assistance, police generally do not, at least until suspect is handcuffed. Too dangerous.
If he “allegedly offered to pay for it” why didn’t he just pay for it?
That statement makes no sense.
As for “Back to dad”, the shooter, (Store owner Michael Dunn), kept his eyes on the man with the deadly weapon, Christobal Lopez. The son had not shown any indication of attacking him.
The son could have remonstrated with his father to pay for or return the hatchet.
Many different potential scenarios were possible, but did not happen.
I’m just going off the reporting from the video link I posted. Lopez, 50, the son, came in the store with his pops, who was at the register? (whatever making a purchase means). Is that wrong?
“According to police, Dunn said Lopez had come into the store with his father, then attempted to take and hide a hatchet while the father was making a purchase.”
Maybe Dunn didn’t know that Pops and 50-yo son were together?
I wasn’t sure about the assistance thing. As I said before, the optics on camera just look bad, like he maybe could have gone over to him and said sorry or help is coming or whatever. I think that’s what ordinary people would think. At that point it was clear Son Lopez was no threat. Maybe Dunn was aiming for a leg and shot too high by mistake. And then just froze in a ‘oh crap’ deer in the headlights moment, not knowing what to do next. And then there’s poor old Dad somewhere in the store. He’s gotta be 70 at least. Old people don’t do trauma very well; it can trigger dementia.
It’s a sad shooting for everyone involved. Dad, Dunn, everyone.
Yes, I understand that we are simply working off of what the media reports.
I saw a video yesterday of the son as a 20-30 year old.
Sorry that my post seemed accusatory to you.
Maybe I am wrong and there was a 70 Year-old father in the store.
It is a nasty event, with plenty of blame to go around.
I will see if I can clear up the father/son question.
Here is an article that says the 50 year-old-son was asked to pay and refused to do so.
It appears the father was in the store as well, but does not say there was interaction between Dunn and the older Christobal Lopez.
I have not seen any information on the age of the father.
Sorry for my confusion. You were more correct than I was.
I didn’t take it that way at all. We’re just trying to figure out what is what and who is who. And the press never makes it easy! :)
