“Independent who won with Democrat support.”

Just like Murky did. WTF is wrong with Alaskans? Are their brains frozen? Or are the Eskimos a big enough “free $hit” voting bloc to get what they want from either party?

“i would have thought AK to be a more independent state and not one for sucking the govt teat!”

You forgot the Eskimos! The are the “takers” both parties cater to in Alaska.

“Why is it such a secret what he actually said? It has to come out some time, doesn’t it? No one “in the know” seems to want the public to know what is going on.”

After the election, we will find out!

Actually, Murky bypassed it altogether. She lost the 2010 GOP primary and ran (and won) as a sore-loser write-in with Democrat support (and although the “official” GOP nominee in 2016, real Republicans backed the Libertarian, who happened to be the Republican who beat her in 2010 - and she won again with a plurality with the support of Democrats who didn’t support the ACTUAL party nominee).

In the case of Walker, he was a weak RINO type who opted to run Independent in 2014. Ordinarily, he’d have lost in the general in a three-way race. Instead, the Democrat nominee that year, the aforementioned Byron Mallott, decided to quit as the nominee and “merge” his ticket with Walker’s and run as Lt Governor. Alas, a VERY disgruntled ex-Gov. Palin in a fit of pique against her former Lt Gov and then-Gov. Sean Parnell, endorsed Walker. That was enough to eke out a plurality win by a narrow margin for Walker.

Walker, of course, turned out to be a bust as Governor with one of the lowest approval ratings in the country. Unless Walker can persuade Dem nominee ex-Sen. Mark Begich to pull the same stunt as Mallott did in ‘14, he’s unlikely to get more than 1/4th of the vote this time against the GOP nominee, Sen. Mike Dunleavy.

Everyone wants their freebies. Independent spirit in Alaska is thing of past and fiction of TV.

Gov. Bill Walker described the remarks as inappropriate overtures to a woman earlier this week.

“i would have thought AK to be a more independent state and not one for sucking the govt teat”

That’s what I used to think until I lived there for 26 years. Alaska would not exist if it wasn’t for the US goobermint sending them a lot more $$$ than they contribute. Juneau and Los Anchorage are over-run with leftards and the Alaska Native population demands everything and then some. There are an incredible number of welfare losers of all races. I blame sugar daddy Ted Stevens for a lot of this.

So if the best thing happens, Walker and the RAT candidate will loose to the Republican?

Yes. Dunleavy has the GOP vote locked up. Walker and Begich are dividing the Democrat and left vote. Even if the latter two merged their ticket, Walker’s unpopularity would still likely cause him to lose.

Personally, I’m surprised one or the other hasn’t gotten out. The left is usually a bit better with keeping their people together and staying unified (as they were in 2014).

Seriously? AK gives each citizen a check every year from the oil income, and has perhaps the most generous welfare programs in the USA. Some people move there because of that generosity. And of course, they vote for ever more generosity!

Neither one will quit.

Both have Egos as big as Alaska.

Add in that Beg-ich is short (little man syndrome) and you have the makings of a real wild election.

The State government is crawling with Beg-ich supporters, I’ll be surprised if this isn’t exposed as a political dirty trick by Mark’s crew - he had the Dems do the dirty to Ted so he could be the Senator.

Fraud is already an issues with Walker pumping money into the villages to “turnout the vote” - as if there isn’t enough fraud already..

That neither will quit is good, it just benefits Dunleavy. It’s a damn shame Palin endorsed Walker in ‘14. After endorsing Juan McQueeg, that was her worst political decision.

Begich knows he won’t win. He doesn’t care if he splits the vote and Dunleavy wins. He’s a snolleygoster and a narcissist and his objective is to keep his name recognition up. Because his real goal is to retake his dead father’s seat in the House. Don Young has been my US Representative since my senior year in high school. I’m retired and go on Medicare next year, so that should give an idea how long he’s been in office. He’s in his 80s and he’s in the sunset years of his time in office. So Begich is going to circle like a vulture and jump in as soon as Don Young is gone. Bet on it.
