The author has long been an authority of situation in Iraq, she understands Syria too.
I've been in much closer contact with the Syrian Kurds over the past 4-5 years.
I am most pleased to read the statement of Secretary Pompeo's strong support for both, in the efforts to bring the war to an end and the aim to help insure security for our Northern Syrian allies in this fight against ISIS.
Take & Give, 1 step backwards & 2 steps forward: The Turks have some kind of obsession with the Saudis & a very definite obession with Gulen, they just released the pastor, now this hits them in a sensitive spot. Erdogan doesn’t realizing he’s being spoofed.
Brave warriors too. They fought well against ISIS.
And get this... they are not hostile to Israel!
Definitely deserving of their own country.
This is VERY good.
The Kurds must make a commitment to protect Christian minorities in Syria.
I’ve been reading Solider of Fortune since 2003 and all of the editors who served in Iraq vouch for the Kurds. Heck, there was even one article about a family naming their first born child DICK CHENEY for how Cheney authorized weapons and food assistance to the Kurds.
Yes, he is now threatening Manbij again. Our recent statement about Syria:
Mike Pompeo: Syrian Kurds are ‘great partners;’ Well ensure them a ‘seat at the table’

NOW, are the US sanctions still on for Turkey?
Totally agree.
Yes

Can you say Nineveh Plains? There is a reason the Kurds have no friends but the mountains.

Why? They have fought alongside the Syrian Kurds since Kobane. That was almost 5 years ago.
Syriac Christians have their own force within the SDF now, but they were in the YPG from the beginning. (I’m told that some of them are still in YPG units)
Long ago I posted this:

I was told of the YPG saving these villages before I actually read this article. The author is probably not welcome on FR from what some here told me, but the tale is true.
Don’t let Turkish propaganda shape your opinion of the Kurds.
I was hoping when we were in Iraq we could have divided that area into 3 sections, a Sunni,a Shia, and a Kurd.
Then get out and let them hassle amongst themselves while we armed the Kurds. - Tom
The Syrian Kurds are not the same as the Iraq Kurds.
The danger in Nilneveh comes from the Shia (Iranian) element of Kurds in Iraq. The Christians were almost totally removed from the Nineveh plains by ISIS. Many have stayed away. Games are being played (great danger) with those who return.
There are differences Among Syriac Christians. Chaldean and Syriac have some overlaps. Some were/are allied to Baghdad others were/are allied with Erbil. Causes problems.
I’m not personally close to any of them in Iraq, but know about them.
I am very close to some in Syria and absolutely love the way they treat their neighbors, defend each other and fight bravely and fiercely to be free of oppression. What is not to like?
They're communists.
Nice!

So are you saying the Kurds in Qamishli, Syria who have closed Christian Schools, and seized Christian homes are not Syrian Kurds?
