Whoa. That is impressive.
It seems almost sacrilege to say this, but the satellite pictures are absolute perfect beauty and symmetry.
You may never see a more perfectly formed and presented storm.
I remember Camille & what it did to Nelson County in our state (VA). The body count was between 150-160 and some were never found. Nelson is 1.5 - 2 hours down the road.
Michael just popped up to 155 mph on Weather Channel - almost a Cat 5.
Oh my God.
The flipping outer bands are stretching out just south of Birmingham.
I wonder if one of the NDBC’s weather stations in Panama City got knock out by the storm. Or

Look at the wind chart. It went from gusting to 93 kts to reporting a 0.
That’s 2 MPH away from a CAT 5, correct?
ABC is showing what it is like on the ground in Panama City. A roof just fell on some SUVs and the wind is unbelievable.
Gusting to 175 at eye wall (Rush talking about it).
2 mph shy of being a CAT 5...
Correct, and they could well upgrade it to Cat 5 after they study the damage afterwards.
Rush just reported winds 155 MPH at the eye and gusts of 175 MPH, on his radio program.
Wow, sadly, I am afraid the beautiful town of Navarre,FL is GONE.
Lots of lightning at landfall.
Looters and burglaries already? I am streaming Weather Channel and others on my computer and a few minutes ago, while the reporter is talking a group of what appears to be young men with bags head up between the apartment buildings, like looking for way in.

(major) 157 mph or higher
137 kt or higher
252 km/h or higher Catastrophic damage will occur: A high percentage of framed homes will be destroyed, with total roof failure and wall collapse. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last for weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.
And the pictures don’t look threatening. Got three channels livestreaming. Chance for day off for the locals. Fun for the fearmongering reports to enjoy the weather and on-air antics.
Navarre is OK. Is 50 miles west of the action. Beach erosion, minor roof damage at most.
