“But what will happen to Ford? Did she not perjure herself?”

Convicting her of perjury would be the most effective way to restore Judge Kavanaugh’s reputation, encourage other qualified people to serve, and deter such fraud in the future.

Most of us are relatively naïve, ready to believe what our news outlets put forth.
Adam Smith suggests that she’s right. Us? What an insult. Does the author of this include herself?
The natural disposition is always to believe. It is acquired wisdom and experience only that teach incredulity, and they very seldom teach it enough. The wisest and most cautious of us all frequently gives credit to stories which he himself is afterwards both ashamed and astonished that he could possibly think of believing. - Adam Smith, Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759)
It’s not prudent to risk being overconfident. We come to FR to pool our (individually inadequate) “incredulity.”

Socialists are different: they are cynical about society and naive about government. It is natural that cynicism about “A” would correspond to naiveté about “not A,” and - as Thomas Paine noted - society is a blessing, and government is (at best a necessary) evil. So it is reasonable to suggest that the two are, in a very real sense, opposites.

OUTSTANDING VIDEO POST. Needs to be posted as a stand alone thread. Wish that were possible... Sooo OUTSTANDING, it hurt 😢❗️Sent it to my three sons and entire contact list! CATHOLIC VOTE sponsored it. I needed THAT, as well— decent news for once.

I have no idea what all that means in regards to my comment. I found the authors comment to be an insult, it's not complex, it's plain and simple.

Btw, you're free to agree and include yourself in her assessment.☺

I believe the Democraps have a long list of allegations against every potential candidate on President Trump list of possible nominees for every appointment that needs the advice and consent of the Senate, not only for the court, all levels!

".... Most of us are relatively naïve, ready to believe what our news outlets put forth...."

Speak for yourself, Patricia. Where have you been for the last few years?

Nobody with any brains believes what "our news outlets put forth".

Ever hear of "fake news"?

I guess it's better to come to the party late than to not show up at all.

Nothing will happen to her. That's why the demonrats were all saying the hearing was not a court of law. So, what was the point of swearing her in?

I have the feeling no matter what man was nominated, that was who “raped” Ford.

If "The wisest and most cautious of us all frequently gives credit to stories which he himself is afterwards both ashamed and astonished that he could possibly think of believing,” maybe that can happen to me too.

And, just possibly, even to you. Well, I guess that’s going too far . . .

I knew it was a huge snow job from day 1. If there was any evidence to back it we would have heard about it months ago. Feinstein and her lawyer had 2+ months to dig up corroboration and they found as much as FBI did: zippo.
A massive con job leveraging the Me Too movement.

From what I’ve seen locally (even here in commie Kalifornia) this is backfiring massively and energizing the base and even suburban voters that don’t like Trump. We all have sons, fathers, etc. who are just one whack job away from a fabricated allegation that can destroy careers, families and lives.

Most of us are relatively naïve, ready to believe what our news outlets put forth. We have open minds and were ready and willing to listen to Ford's testimony and consider for ourselves if it was believable.

That is untrue. I would have to say that the majority of Americans do NOT believe a word the mockingbird Journalists have to say about anything.

We just like to watch them make fools of themselves and then laugh until we have water coming out our eyes.

We should adopt that as the national motto, to be read aloud whenever the National Anthem is played.

Do you always cut and past other people’s work without giving them credit for the quotes?

Pay attention to the level and content of what is reported regarding the hate mail and threats Senators receive who vote for Kavanaugh, both Reps and Dems. Will they all be doxed? Will there be veiled or blatant threats of blackmail, physical harm or death? Has this travesty reached a level that requires investigation and arrests?

Your reply to my #30:
Do you always cut and past other people’s work without giving them credit for the quotes?
The quote in #30 is in reply to your #24, which is itself a reply to my #22. The quotation in #30 is directly from the blockquote
The natural disposition is always to believe. It is acquired wisdom and experience only that teach incredulity, and they very seldom teach it enough. The wisest and most cautious of us all frequently gives credit to stories which he himself is afterwards both ashamed and astonished that he could possibly think of believing. - Adam Smith, Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759)
. . . which is referenced, with link as above, in my #22.

I’m at a bit of a loss as to what your beef exactly is. Can you elucidate?

I have no beef. I simply said you're free to agree with the above and include yourself in her assessment.☺

And if you're going to quote people from known sources, ya ought to at least post the authors name or a link to the quote.

If Christine Blasey Ford intended to keep this confidential, why did she lawyer up and also take a polygraph test in July? She, or somebody she was associated with, always intended this to be held in their hip pocket in case the democrats could not kill the confirmation vote. Schumer sure meant what he said that he would do everything within his power to stop Kavanaugh.

***Likewise journalism reserves the words "right wing" and "conservative" for use as unfavorable labels for those who have principles other than getting along with journalists***

Fascinating 'bio' page (& '99.) Don't see your handle around where I linger.
