Christine Blasey Ford, a California woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of attempted rape

I don't think that was the claim. Rather, she testified that he touched her, tried to take off her swimsuit, put his hand over her mouth, and she was afraid he would do something else.

I think The X-Files covered this subject very well back in the 90s.

Rather than recovering memories, it implants them.

I’m pretty sure that within 15 minutes I could have Ford clucking like a chicken.
Not a whole lot going on in there IMO.

Qiviut on this topic in another thread;

Fffford was also asked by Rachel Mitchell if she had educated herself on the best way to get to memory, truth when interviewing victims of trauma ... best practices. The answer was “no”.

I’d say that was a lie in light of this info from Margo.

Have not seen DC McAllister mentioned on the Freeper/Kav threads. She went to college w Ford and has a lot to say of interest. She’s a long time conservative columnist.

I studied hypnosis and did some hypnotherapy sessions for people several years ago. My teachers made the point that with hypnosis one is dealing with a client's perceptions, not with truth. Also, that it is too easy to ask leading questions which the client will find easier to go along with. This problem is even more magnified with children. So a good hypnotist doesn't ask, for example, "Who raped you" because the client may fantasize an answer. Instead the hypnotist should ask "What's happening" and let the client describe the event, following up with "And then", "Then what" type questions.

I don't believe any "recovered memories" can be considered reliable unless subsequently verified by evidence.

actually hypnosis is a great way to induce false memories.

You see, those who are easily hypnotized also are easily influenced by the one inducing the trance. So they often lie and change their story to “please” the interviewer.

True, when you have a story, sometimes hypnosis (which is deep concentration where you block out distractions) will help you remember details. But even then, it is easy to “remember” false stuff.

that is why evidence from hypnosis (like lie detector tests) are not admissible in court.

Kavanaugh was in the news at the time and there was a bit of hysteria in the pro choice feminists, so if Dr. Ford “remembered” her abuse under hypnosis, she could easily have “remembered” him (i.e. put his name in the blank) as being the perpetrator because she needed a name and his name came to mind.

Myself, my take is that the “incident” was not something that should cause a normal person to get all hyper. Heck, he didn't even get her clothing off, nor did he punch her and tell her to put ice on her swollen lip. Nor did she run downstairs screaming and crying.

But one does wonder if K was the perpetrator.
