Turtle was blindsided by Flake on Friday.
He moves slow but I don’t think he will let this happen again.
I think he has the votes.
Win or lose, the vote needs to happen now.
I did and I am. Grassley gave numerous “deadlines”, then let them slip to hold the sham hearings, then delayed again to have the farce of an FBI investigation. I’m hoping Mitch won’t be rolled once he sets a date for a vote.
Jeff Flake: I Will Vote to Confirm Brett Kavanaugh*
*unless I’m screamed at in an elevator by two social justice warriors.
Kavanaugh has been on the GOP-E short list for the USSC for a long time. Dont count on any actual change of heart from Graham and McConnell.
This is the key point here. This is not a MAGA nominee we are talking about that The Turtle is doing heavy lifting for.
Tbis really shows how little chance a MAGA SCOTUS nominee would have getting confirmed in the current beltway sewer environment. POTUS is doing a great job with the cards he has been dealt, IMO.
I’d write Flake off...he’s voting “NO” regardless of what the FBI does. To the ladies I would say, “I’d appreciate your vote in the affirmative, but if you don’t I’ll do my damnedest to make sure you get zero support for anything you ever want-to include reelection”.
Murkowski doesn’t care. She’s a progressive and apparently BFF with Feinswine. Collins is from a deep blue state and will do whatever she wants. They literally don’t care about the GOP agenda. The time to get them in line was long ago. But the Senate GOP would never elect a strong Majority Leader. They like it this way.
I believe him.
McConnell would not say it, if he weren’t pretty sure.
Of course nothing is ever certain, but I hope it will happen and K. gets confirmed.
After Murkowski was able to win without conservatives and without support of the GOP itself - not to mention not even being on the ballot - she went much further left. She knows she can win if she has to without the GOP behind her. That’s what is bad about having such a thin majority that is dependent on having Senators like her as a part of it.
Yes he was - I read an article where it said he had a 30 minute meeting with Murkowski and had gotten her back on board and she withdrew her demand for FBI investigation - only to have Flake pull his stunt to give her cover to get back on board.
They’ve got the detailed report from Ms. Mitchell, the prosecutor - lays it out crystal clear. What more do they need?
I think it was Newt on Fox today that said if Kavanaugh is voted down that Pres. Trump should immediately renominate Kavanaugh and make it clear that the people can decide in November if he should be on the USSC by making the case that electing republicans would be a statement from the electorate that Kavanaugh should be on the court. Genius?
Tax rates and health care are one thing. But confirming a Supreme Court justice is the Holy Grail. If McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, fails to confirm a SC nominee, it’s a badge of shame that will define his entire tenure.
He might be a RINO, but he doesn’t want to go out with that disgrace.
Hubby just said he heard on the news that the vote will be Wednesday. Is this right?
youre right.
in addition, as i wrote in another thread, these pols aren’t going to make a major announcement or public statement unless they are 200% sure that what they are saying is carved in granite and dead balls certain.
100%
“I just hope Trump knows what hes doing here.”
Graham had a very interesting take on all f this on Hannity last night...
If Kavanaugh is NOT confirmed, Graham believes Trump will immediately re-nominate him and make the midterms an ultimatum on this single issue: Trump’s campaign promise to appoint constitutional judges exactly like Kavanaugh.
There are enough Senators running for reelection in pro Trump states (including Democrats) that do not wish to run afoul of Trump voters, many of whom voted for Trump over this very issue.
Graham believes Kavanaugh will get confirmed shortly but that if he does not, Trump is prepared to double down and renominate him - and leverage the issue to win a big upset in the midterms.
Then Kavanaugh will sail through his second nomination - one way or another Kavanaugh becomes a SC justice in 2018.
What a disgrace the Senate Leadership is. Mitch should have had Flake, Murkowski and Collins in line quite easily as this obvious political hit is despicable and unacceptable, even a two year old would understand what’s happening here and it’s disgusting. #VOTEHIMIN
