If Assad uses chemical weapons (probably fake anyways) Trump should refuse to act because, “this can be a mole in my administration trying to work against me, only the NY times knows for sure”

Of course they’ll never do it, but he’s got them on the defensive.

Personally I bet the whole thing is made-up out of thin air. Fiction.

I doubt all but about 5 people. Trump being one, myself being another.

It is either fake or Trump is trolling the NYT.

Have the ny times raided, have all their computers and cell phones seized.

Raid their homes, and likewise seize phones, computers, etc.

The ny times has proven themselves to be an existential threat to national security.

Military force should IMO be authorized in this case to apprehend the editors and writers and have them sent to GITMO, or have them “renditioned” in a undisclosed country.

"If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!"

Yes. It could be treason, depending on the person's position and what they've done. Interfering with the work of the Commander-in-Chief and/or the work of the Executive office would seem to involve a very serious crime. The New Yuk Times may not have a legal excuse for publishing that and withholding the identity of the author, either.

According to the Times, the author is not a private resident, but rather, a person who is a member and representative of the U.S. government while claiming to be an accessory to interference against the duties of the President of the United States.

In other words, the claim is *not* that the person passed a tip to a reporter. The person in question is acting as an agent of the press, and at the same time, a member of the same U.S. government that the same person is libeling in full view of the leaders of foreign nations.

In essence, the person is weakening national security in front of the eyes of foreign enemies and other foreign nations.

If a member of our U.S. government is legally allowed to damage our national security anonymously as an infiltrating antagonist and a member of the press, that person needs to be fired. Also if legal, that’s a problem that needs to be solved in the legislature. If it’s not legal, that person needs to be found and prosecuted.

My $0.02:

What Mr. Trump could do is empower every (yes, EVERY) Executive Branch worker to speak freely to news media, so long as they spoke on the record. Citing the 1st Amendment, he could say they would not face termination if they accepted responsibility for the comments they chose to take to media outlets or posted to social media.

Should they choose to remain anonymous, said employees could face administrative actions up to and including immediate unilateral termination of employment for cause. (Gotta leave open the option of posting someone to the U.S. Embassy in Ulan Bator.)

I’ll admit, I’m not sure this would work. But it sure would hoist the swamp media by their own petard.
