Award-winning journalist Jennifer Moore dies at 64

Groundbreaking television and radio reporter Jennifer Moore, inducted this year into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame, has died at age 64 after being diagnosed two years ago with cancer. Her television journalism career began when Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV-Ch. 4 hired Moore as business editor in 1979.

Moore worked at WDIV until 2002. She then launched media consulting firm Konrad & Moore Inc. with longtime friend and colleague Beth Konrad, and then was broadcast and corporate news manager for Ford Motor Co. until retiring in 2013.

Moore was recruited from an Akron radio station to come to Michigan in the 1970s by WJR AM 760, where she worked until going to WDIV.

The state's journalism hall of fame wrote in Moore's induction biography that she "left a legacy of expanding the audience for business news by changing the game" because of her work as the first female business reporter hired by one of Detroit's television stations.

"Moore helped evolve coverage of business issues from a specialized audience to one that gave context and meaning and relevance to the average citizen. She was also one of the first women to cover the auto industry and labor in Detroit," the hall wrote.

She also worked as an investigative reporter, political reporter, writer and television news anchor. Moore's work was honored with a litany of awards, including a trio of Emmys, two honors from the Michigan Associated Press Broadcaster's Association and two Women in Communication awards, among other honors.

Her business reporting for "Made in Japan" was honored by United Press International and the Economic News Broadcasters Association and won a Janus National Business Reporting Award, the hall of fame said.

"The loss of our mother is hard to bear," said Michael Carroll, Moore's firstborn son, in a statement. "But, there is solace in the knowledge that our mother had such a profound effect on so many lives. An intrepid journalist, an unwavering mother and stalwart matriarch of our family, our mother was above all things a woman of gravity, pulling all those around her in and changing those she touched forever."

Public services are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church in Detroit.

George Webb said today no one from her family has responded to calls to claim her and arrange disposition.

Also, Webb says Jenny had a masters in psychology and worked extensively with abused kids.
