It’s pretty obvious that you have no kids. Or even interact with them. City feral kids are the worst! And if you think kids aren’t fleet and any adult can catch them easily, you need to get busy watching even toddlers and how fast they move. Which is why they need to be minded - not allowed to get out at night stealing stuff.

Wow, drama queen much? ;)

Go hang out in a rough-area Walmart for a few hours. Watch the shoppers, the goings on, those exiting.

FYI, shoplifting has become a family tradition among the protected classes these days. Mommas teach their children. Children distract while Momma loads up. She’ll feed them and leave the wrappers stuck in the shelves. Heck, items are stuffed under babies in their carriers.

Friends of ours invested their small savings in a small clothing store, mostly jeans and sweaters etc. After several years they had to close because of the shop lifting. Thieving customers wore new items right out the door. Big box stores have to make a profit in order to pay for salaries and other overhead. Corporations may have built in limits on how much thievery they can sustain but at some point they have to close. Shop lifting is stealing and while much of it is overlooked because of legal consequences to any interference by those being robbed, it is still a sin and a crime. An 11 yr old who is part of a group stealing whatever they want knows full well that it is wrong. She will not benefit from being excused or sympathized with. Tasering her will be the least of what happens to her if she continues to take what does not belong to her.

Holy moly. Mothers and children stealing a few cents worth of food while feeding themselves. Even making a culture of it, those scoundrels! The crime of the century in our midst!

Crank up the voltage and let em fry!

Did you bother to read the article? That’s a rhetorical question. I already know the answer.

The officer approached 3 juvenile girls who had been observed shoplifting. One girl turned and began to WALK away. She ignored the officer’s repeated demands to stop and continued to WALK away. At that point the officer tased her in the back. So basically he was just too lazy to take hold of an 11 year old girl and cuff her. It’s just so much easier to use that taser.

There is no reason to tase an 11 year old child unless they are brandishing a weapon.

You know, you're right.
People who steal(for whatever reason) are the smart ones. WE, who PAY, are the fools. Everyone should just take what they want and you should be happy to give it to them! Open your doors-house and cars. It's wrong to prevent others from having what they want. Can I have your car, your paycheck? Why not if I want it?
Why should retail stores charge for anything? Why should anyone be punished for taking anything they want? Everything should be free! You can live that philosophy right now will you? If society, in general, agrees with you none of us will have ANYTHING except anarchy.

"Any boot lickers going to try to say this was a good thing?"

If stealing and running was all involved it was wrong, even if departmental policies technically permitted it. Yet, only cop haters would be quick and overjoyed to pass a final judgment so soon without waiting for further information.

But my big question is: Who but a twisted-ass punk would start his FR thread by calling all FReepers who would disagree "boot lickers?"

When I see people who get a charge out of personally insulting other anonymously online, I think of kids who tease other kids while hiding behind their mothers.

Years ago I witnessed a 7-11 clerk stand helplessly as about a dozen young inner city “Youts” walk in and out of the store with anything they wanted. He was alone. (Before cell phones).
I was the only one paying for my stuff.

Shoplifting is a sport to some.

Theres an entire ocean between letting anyone steal anything versus tasing a child walking away while stealing food.

There are countless ways to prevent theft and punish thieves without physical abuse. Especially with young child thieves

“Yes 11. Roaming around late at night...STEALING!”

So tase the parents for bad parenting. The only pajamaboy squish I’m seeing here is you. Apparently you must be too much of a Nancy boy to take hold of a 4 ft 9 inch girl who weighs 90 pounds and slip on some cuffs. I could do it right this minute. There is no reason to be tasing 11 year old kids for shoplifting. They are supposed to be detained and taken downtown. If you are a cop and you cannot detain a small girl in a store you are in the wrong line of work.

This guy was off duty working at Kroger to make extra money and he just didn’t feel like dealing with the problem. So he tased a little girl which is distasteful to most people (well excluding you) and now he’s going to be in a world of chit for it.

Or it might bring on convulsions and death but still a win win as it would mean one more ghetto kid out of the mix right? A violent end to a non violent crime.

You don't hang out in the inner city much. Often, the first indication you have that somebody has a weapon is after you've been cut. And, yes, young kids do carry weapons. I grew up in such an environment, and carried a knife since 6th grade (age 11). And this was 50 years ago -- things have gone more feral since then.

The advantage of the taser is you don't have to put yourself into slicing range.

Theres an entire ocean between letting anyone steal anything versus tasing a child walking away while stealing food.

Your entire argument revolves around the supposition that (1) the kid was stealing food, (2) because she was hungry.
