Did you consider yourself a ‘college graduate’ when you got your AS?

Was just a blip in the road to me since I was going to eventually get my Masters. But for some people it is a huge deal.

All Israel in the desert had known of God’s guidance of them, yet they still needed a Golden Calf to worship.

An excerpt from one of a number of statements about scientific proof:

Proof vs. Evidence

Another word that is commonly misused (sadly, sometimes even by scientists, who should know better) is "proof".

What "proof" means in everyday speech: In casual conversations, most people use the word "proof" when they mean that there is indisputable evidence that supports an idea.

Scientists should be wary of using the term "proof". Science does not "prove" things. Science can and does provide evidence in favor of, or against, a particular idea. In science, proofs are possible only in the highly abstract world of mathematics.

What should scientists say instead of "proof"? Scientists should use the term "evidence" instead of the word "proof". When we test our hypotheses, we obtain evidence that supports or rejects the hypotheses. We do not "prove" our hypotheses.

While this may seem like a subtle difference, the words we use can subconsciously color our thinking. "Proof" suggests that a matter is completely settled, that we have had the last word on something.

In science, we are constantly adding to and refining our knowledge. When we have a sufficiently large body of evidence supporting an idea, we accept that idea. In the words of Stephen Jay Gould, "In science, "fact" can only mean "confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent."

When Science does admit there is a God, great discoveries will be made.

Proof? I am faithful and everday I see proof but I am not looking for it whatsoever!

The wording was awful. I read it twice, having never heard of a degree in Florida.

My kiddo went to St. Petersburg College (it’s a Community College, and has morphed into a 4 year College as well.)

Look like he’s taking the route a lot of younger kids take (though not as young as him.) We have Dual Enrollment and if you can test into College level classes, then you are able to go to college class, tuition free, and earn credits that count as High School and College credits.
So you graduate High School with a diploma and at the same time have your A.A.degree (i.e. the first 2 years of general ed classes that are included in most college degrees.)

He’s going to University of South Florida, there’s a campus in St. Petersburg and in Tampa. The college in Tampa is like a city 50,000 kids on the sprawling campus. The campus is St. Pete is beautiful, on the Bay with a lovely water view...downtown St. Pete is quite the “happening” place these days, so college kids like it...no car needed. Finishing 2 more years at USF will give him a Bachelor’s...and this degree is also tuition free if you qualify for the merit scholarship given to Florida residents going to in state public colleges.

Our son added his Masters at University of Tampa (private school) but free
tuition because he was a Teaching Assistant. So he came through the
graduate program and had his degrees out of the way when he was 21, tuition free.

The kid in the article would finish his Graduate degree at 15 if he chooses the same route.

ConservaTeen said that he makes him look like a slacker. ConservaTeen isn't a slacker, but will be graduating in high school in December.

I love his goal - to prove GOD exist...

IF the universe is 14 billion years old

AND

IF the earth is 4 billion years old

THEN

Does that provide sufficient time for what we see to have evolved from zero life and no variety to life with lots of variety?

The answer is NO because:

Matter + Energy + Time <> LIFE

Cool. Sooner or later, science will ‘prove’ the existence of God to itself, since that is what science is ultimately all about.

Mathematics is obviously the programming language He uses to create this matrix we’re living in, so that’s one place to study Him, but He is everywhere, all around us and within the Laws that govern His creation.

Romans 1:19-20 explains:

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
All is in motion, but with our very limited senses, we humans are only aware of a very thin sliver of the vast electromagnetic spectrum.

As such, it’s difficult to “see” things that are beyond the range of our limited physical senses, as is the case with distant celestial objects, for one example.

However, we can see their influence on the movements of things that we can see and therefore ‘know’ something is there even if we can’t actually see it first hand.

This is also true of a supernatural God who created this world and everything in it, and who exists all around us, yet is beyond our rational discernment.

“Because we can’t “see” Him with our senses or our rational mind, therefore He doesn’t exist” is similar to believing that the invisible high frequency radiation all around us, that we now use for radio, television and cell phone transmission, didn’t exist until we invented radios, TVs and cell phones.

Whether it’s of the physical world or the supernatural world, just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Though not quite like our five physical senses, perhaps faith and belief are our senses, too, for that which we can’t “see”, but know is there.

I wonder about human intuition as the bridge between the physical and supernatural worlds we simultaneously live in.

Is intuition the door He knocks on and speaks through in His still, small voice?

Our young friend will be half-a-century too late, because Roger Penrose and Steven Hawking’s work in 1970 demonstrated that the universe must have had a beginning and therefore a transcendent Beginner. The only question remaining was whether this Beginner was the God of the Bible—which any full and fair study of it confirms.

LOL - And Hawking just hated having to acknowledge that all theories of the origin of the universe come back to the singularity. I’m sure that’s what prompted his goofy “multiverse” theory and his absurd assertion that “anything as elegant as gravity would have to have created itself”.

Hawking remained a deist, despite his born-again wife and a Christian houseguest who together held regular prayer meetings in which ol’ Steve participated. Never could quite take that leap of faith, it seems.
