I too have never seen the use of a gun in self-defense.
But twice an illegal immigrant Mexican with concealed carry saved my life by pulling his weapon and chasing away my attacker.
Of course, I have heard numerous stories from others about self-defense, both by illegals and legals. Back when, illegals felt like they could not call the police. So they practiced concealed carry. They are the perfect proof of John Lott’s thesis.
So do cops. They rarely use their guns too.
So do most military.
Lets disarm all the government workers socthat society can be safer.

Funny, I personally know two people who used firearms to save themselves. One an attempted car-jacking (reported to LE), the other an attempted home invasion (not reported). So from my experience, available statistics are going to under-report legal self-defense use. Actual use may be double what is reported and tracked.

Yeah, it’s a myth that I fended off a guy who kicked in my door by letting him see the shotgun I was holding. Just a myth.
Most self-defense with a firearm instances go unreported because the gun was not fired. Just holding it on the perp was enough to stop them. Win-win.

Some years ago, I lived in N Calif. The well known local drug dealer on that road came into my driveway, parked & opened my gate-—left it open —a felony where livestock are housed——and kept walking toward my front door.
He was declaring that I had thrown gravel & broken his windshield. I had thrown gravel at him whenever I was near the road because of his excessive speeding, but I always only hit the back of his truck-—he was going too fast.
I stood at the top of my 9 steps leading to my front door, and pulled out my 12 gauge shotgun. Told him to stop. He said I wouldn’t shoot. Told him he could find out, it was his choice to either turn around or keep coming.
After a staring contest of about 45 seconds, he turned around, got into his truck, left my gate open—again, a felony where livestock are concerned—and drove off, spraying gravel all over my driveway.
I called the Sheriff. Told him what had happened. I asked him one question:
“What would have happened to me IF I had shot that SOB OUTSIDE my LOG house?” (If he had gotten inside, no one would have heard me screaming).
There was a pause...then the Sheriff said:
I think we would have thrown you a party.
The drug dealer was found dead about 12 months later. Thought to be a drug deal gone bad, and I am pretty sure no one spent much time looking for his killer.
The bottom line?
I was about 60 when that happened.
I will go to my grave POSITIVELY CERTAIN that if I did not have that shotgun on that day, I would not be writing this now. He would have killed me. I was ready to shoot him—before he could get a foot up on my steps.
That is why people have guns.

She lied. I’ve used my pistols for self defense several times over the years. In the mid 70’s I stopped a young woman from being raped. Reading the NRA’s various publications you’ll see monthly stories of firearm usage to stop crime.

Kind of a funny comment from those who claim that "if even one life is saved by gun control...." and then not putting any value on the "rare" lives that have been/will be saved by using a weapon for self-defense.....
What BS. How bout that woman just last week that had a man breaking her door down to ‘visit’ her young daughter? There are plenty of cases about self defense saving lives. (Well, lives of ‘good’ people, rather than the ‘animals’ attacking them.)
