Or private companies can set-up charities and give directly to the people they believe are in need.

Yes, because taxing the productive and giving it to deadbeats is always the right way to go.

I hope I don’t need the sarcasm tag here...

Why should we care about the rich? They vote Democrat. I say do it provided the recipients work a provable 2000 hours/yr. That plus give up ALL welfare. Get this country moving-not again but FASTER.

"He says he's made "half a billion dollars for three years of work"

Let's do the math. That works out to $167,000,000 per year. There are about 330,000,000 people in the US and half of them don't earn enough to even pay income taxes, so they all could be considered 'poor'. Hughes earned enough to give them each a buck apiece if half his income were distributed to them. Thus, it would take 6000 people as rich as he is to give the 'poor' a paltry $6,000 annual income even if the government could distribute it with 100% efficiency.

There probably aren't more than a couple dozen people in the US as rich as he is. Someone would have to make up the difference. It would be you and me.

He should set a good example, and do so himself. Why wait for a new law? He can do it today.

This is so typical of the leftist virtue-signaling. Of course he knows there will never be a law taxing the "rich" 50% so it's easy for him to call for is and get recognition as a social justice hero.

As usual, liberals are all words, no action.

In Massachusetts a few years back, the governor lowered the state tax rate and the liberals went into high dudgeon. So the governor (I think it was Paul Cellucci but not sure) had put on the state tax forms a checkbox for those who still wanted to pay at the higher rate. A genius move that shut the critics right up.

Howie Carr reported that only about 37 people (out of millions) elected to pay the higher tax rate.

This made all the tax-hiking liberals hypocrites.

And he thinks the money should come from higher taxes on wealthy individuals

Deal. We'll tax your wealth at 50% so you can't hide behind income tax loopholes and give it to crack heads to buy more crack.

The result will be that there will soon be a lot less people making a lot of money because the incentive will be gone, and there will be a lot more people looking for a free handout with no incentive to work. The over drawn well dries up quickly. It’s human nature, which communism denies.

At a 90% tax rate, some people will still have more money than they could ever spend. Better to take it all and redistribute to the needy, don’t you think?

Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

Taking the wealth that productive people create to give that money to those who are not productive is stealing. Wanting to see it taken is coveting - envy. Both are violations of God’s law. I am disgusted by the totalitarian socialists who stoop so low. Why don’t they encourage able-bodied people to work instead of encouraging them to be parasites? I feel too much compassion for those in need to follow the left and keep them needy.

He says he's made "half a billion dollars for three years of work" based on the value of his initial stock in Facebook, and his "lucky break" is exactly what's wrong with America today.

He and Zucky had a "good idea", made a lot of money and now he's feeling guilty.

If he wants to give away his money he can. If he's serious about this he would.

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes thinks the government should give cash handouts to people with the lowest incomes in order to fight income inequality. And he thinks the money should come from higher taxes on wealthy individuals and even big tech companies, like Facebook.

Says the man who undoubtedly employs a small army of tax consultants and accountants who have been tasked with exploiting every single tax loophole they can identify.

How does $500 a month help? Pretty sure he has access to more than $500 a month so still inequality- since that is what he is concerned about. Unless he gives his wealth away until he only has $500 a month, and convinces everyone that has more than $500 a month to do the same... I do wish the dims would be honest, they want to take more from the rich so there is more money floating around for them to pocket.

Even trying to see their logic it is obvious they don’t put any thought into their brilliant ideas.
