I also avoid the whole Bay Area, and absent a compelling reason, the entire once and former Golden State.

It is not just conventions. We live about four hours from San Francisco but travel there very infrequently. Which is a shame, it used to be nice, I was even stationed there in the Navy for a bit, lived in Berkeley briefly, then San Jose. But now, I cannot bring my gun for self-defense, the city is unsafe, it is filthy, horrible traffic, and no parking. Sad demise of a once great city.
