Coldest naturally occurring temperatures

I was going to say, my ex-girl friend had a
colder shoulder than that...miffed with icicles on it.

So we must assume that CO2 levels drop dramatically during the cold Ice Age ?

If true, it gives justification to artificially raising the CO2 before the cold ice age returns.

***The lowest measured air temperature on earth is −89.2 °C (−129 F) on 23 July 1983,*** Say what! I remember fifty years ago reading the story written by a ranger at what is now the McKinley National Park in Alaska. He said one time it was so cold his dogs refused to hook up to the sleigh but ran back to their dog houses. He said the temp was around -170. He is the ranger that kept the name "Denali" alive way back when everyone was calling it Mt McKinley.

I've been outside at -48F in very still air. You go outside, and the cold grips you like icy fingers. Your breath condenses immediately as ice. Stay still, and a cushion of warm air surrounds you; move, and the big chill hits you again. The cold comes up through your boots so you're hopping from one foot to another.

Frightening.

Coldest temperatures ever??? Prove it. Now we have false science.

More like standard issue bogus Breitbart headline.

It's the coldest recorded temperature - simply because we didn't have the sensors there before.

I am not surprised. The Prophet Al Gore (peace be upon him) warned us that Global Warming could cause planetary cooling.

I was wondering if more snow was falling there to counterbalance the melting at other areas along Antarctica, thus reducing the danger of sea level rise. On the other hand if it is cold enough to make dry ice, how long does that last and how would it affect total snow accumulation in that area?

That’s a good description of the effects cold weather.

We used to get 4 to 6 weeks of - 40 (F or C) or colder every winter, where I used to live (Canada’s far north). Coldest temperature, in which I spent the day outdoors, was - 59.5 F. You really need to wear a parka and scarf or Balaclava to keep from hurting your lungs. Unless you have a heated garage, you need to drive very slowly at first — because the tires have frozen flat spots. You’ll often need to engage 4-wheel drive to be able to move at all.

I’ve been thinking that Guantanamo prisoners could be incarcerated at a prison on an island in the Aleutian Arc. It might be a nice place for these desert inhabitants to reflect on their murderous sins.

A block of dry ice has a surface temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahrenhei

At 11,500 feet the pressure is 19.41 inches https://www.omega.com/techref/pdf/Alt_Press_table.pdf which is 0.66 bar which means CO2 will sublimate at -85C http://www.chemicalogic.com/Documents/co2_phase_diagram.pdf or -121F

There is never liquid CO2 on earth.

Well it is very hot here on the last day of June, but as I always tell those complaining about the heat - it must be colder than usual somewhere else if you/we are “hotter” than usual where we are.

Below -78 C there should be CO2 frost.
