Its a mixed bag reading those comments. Some I agree with and others are just leftist diatribe. Do agree that American popular culture has been dumbed down and crass and government generally sucks. Educational system is dreadful, expensive and full of hack leftists who censor material that threatens their agenda. On the other hand I’m glad we have laws that prohibit walking around in the nude in most places. Go back to Europe if they miss all that.

The Happier Abroad Team is dedicated to promoting awareness of Overseas Options and Solutions for Men in the areas of Love, Dating and Relationships

In any country 20% of the men get 80% of the women, and 80% of the men fight over the 20% left over. An average American man in the 80% here may be surprised to find themselves in the 20% crowd in many countries, sometimes even the top 1%.

Is this “Winston” a Russian troll, spreading stuff designed to undermine Americans support for their system?

That is an objective that they actively pursue on the Internet - should be able to find some like this out there.

Yeah; they just don’t “get us”. Of course the feeling is mutual and I have travel overseas a lot. I’m usually both in awe of the architecture and dumbstruck by the cultures but hey; who am I to judge...

I lived in many foreign nations when working in the oilfields, North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. A common refrain mostly from the wives of the workers was how bad it was. My refrain when living in Veneauala (this was pre Chavez in the good days) "their are two flights a day to Miami.

This is Russian propaganda.

Here is another recent thread about the Russian effort: http://freerepublic.com/focus/news/3665904/posts?page=1

My opinion? Americans are decent, friendly and compassionate but on the otther the’re also egoist, abrasive and arrogant. To many foreigners, they appeared obsessed with appearance, status and money and seem to live for what they have rather than for God or even for each other. Their human relationships lack depth, genuine commitment and love. They’re lonely and stick to themselves and they’re quick to criticize other countries but are offended when people point out things they don’t like about them and there is a good deal of truth to how others see us.

Maybe they’re wrong and we’re right. We could could do a great deal to be better than we are and see how we can live the way we deserve to live without being confined by the belief having things is a substitution for having strong ties with our families and being able to defend our values without assuming they’re right for everyone else.

There’s more to and while our country is the best for us it isn’t perfect and we aren’t God’s gift to the world. We want to live the way we want and as an American, I want other people to live as they see fit. I am not at all the Ugly American foreigners caricature.

Some of the criticisms are correct. But there seems to be a general theme in the article of almost completely overlooking a couple of very important things about USA. First, we still have a portion ( a shrinking portion admittedly) of the liberties and respect for the sovereignty of the individual — that’s lacking in many other countries. And second, there are many millions of good decent Americans whose lives are not nearly as vapid and superficial as some are in, say, a few large cities or leftist enclaves ( where Marxian materialism is now the rule). “ Fly- over country” has tens of millions of good, reasonably well- balanced people, and you can find some on the coasts if you hunt hard enough ( because they’re mostly in hiding there )

You win the “Longest & Most Worthless” post I have seen on FR.

Is there a point?

I agree with you.

Foreigners are put off by the materialism, the shallow ignorance, the human emptiness and violence in American life.

The criticisms may be unfair or misplaced but other people conclude that’s the essence of American culture.

More to the point, its not a political evaluation but its a human observation of us.

A lot of good observations and maybe you don’t care for them.

How other people see us has the same effect on me as would criticism from my wife

I may not agree with it but I can’t overlook it or dismiss it.

"In reality, there are few redeeming qualities to living in America other than making money and consuming."

Except for some who immigrate by marrying Americans, most of the business/money immigrants come only for taking money and consuming, and for imposing their corrupt foreign cultures on Americans.

"Americans sit in an echo chamber just as bad as those pesky liberals on the coasts."

Foreign liberals on the coasts (including recent European arrivals and their children) and foreign liberals oozing into the rest of the states don't know much about real Americans. They're more interested in perpetrating schemes to try to cheat us out of our properties, our institutions, and to commit other crimes against human rights.

For example, most of the human trafficking in the U.S.A. is carried out by business/money immigrants and their recent descendants.

I saw what you mean about the repetitious phrasing...also the dates of the posts were in the 2004 to 2008 range...Bush was mentioned a lot but Obama was not. Many repeat phrases were noted such as “the dead soulless eyes” of Americans, particularly from the Russian posters. I came away with the impression that Winston was making things up but applying fake names to cover his own musings.

The only thing “dead and souless’ about us freepers might be the 1000 yard stare of some of our marksmen with a gun in their hands facing down a miscreant who is acting with murderous intent!

"It's like Donald Trump. He's like the doctor with no bed side manner. He tells you to lose weight, stop smoking and drinking and exercise. You get all angry and yell and stomp out the door. But the fact is, he's the only one who is telling you the truth."

That is very true. And now that I have read more of the page that you posted, most of that is also true.

Until the end of the 1960s, we had an old fashioned, traditional culture that was much more moral and productive and managed mostly by Americans descended from those who won the American Revolution.

Then in the late 1970s, our manufacturing employers with parents or grandparents from Europe began to move our manufacturing facilities to foreign countries and made feminist laws to divide our families and further push men out of jobs.

The children of many investors pushed the Bohemian paradigm throughout our society and finished ruining it since the late 1960s. They continue to try to further ruin our nation by flooding us with multitudes of people from the poorest, most corrupt countries on the planet.

"This is Russian propaganda."

Oh, thanks. So the Russians are trying to do us a favor again with their incompetence. Let's follow the advice to get cleaned up, get in good shape, and make America great again. We're starting to look like drunken, drug-addled, derelict, crooked Russians.

@familyop

Thank you. Most posters did not read the entire article and just fell for a knee-jerk reaction.

I argue that failure to assimilate is more important than any immigration issues.

Assimilation requires time and understanding. It is NOT going to happen when the environment is toxic to traditional family values. The corporate and liberal political situation has created a condition where good christian Mexicans and other South Americans cannot assimilate because they find the current situation in America is anti-family and anti-tradition.

You raised some good points. Which is why I started posting on FR way back when it was first started.
