A brave new world.
We must be close to the end.

” combined two types of stem cells “
That’s not “from nothing”.
Try starting with just chemicals and go from there.

Scientists will think they are God. And then The End will come.

Viable embryos are humans.

I keep telling this to my children in college, whenever the biologists say “created” look at the precursors they used.
All of them have a pre-existing biological component.
Life comes from life.

I was going to say, they actually started with quite a bit of something.
None the less, we’re letting Genie’s out of the bottle I’d prefer were kept in that bottle.

Sounds to me like they created life from life.

Make your own elements, to make the chemicals.

I agree, and what is going on in this research front is just one of the many facets of why I believe that.

...
Maybe they just think they were created in God’s image.

And just who created all chemicals? Hmmmm?

Just the beginning, actually. It may very well turn out that organic intelligence is just a necessary, yet primitive evolutionary step leading towards inorganic intelligence.
However, long before society reaches the stage of fully implemented AI, elective procedures involving applied gene therapies will be commonplace. The market for modifications/improvements in cognitive abilities, beauty and attractiveness will explode.
Humanity isn't going to become more diverse, rather it will consolidate around universally acknowledged standards of beauty and intelligence. There will be of course conflicts, as Eloi try to retain power by creating an opposing race of Morlocks, and let us not neglect the MIC aspects, but Pandora's box was opened long ago.
When it is discovered just how simple the brain really is, with perhaps a few key gene expressions controlling most of the cognitive processing, the resulting synthetic applications on the converging CPU side will eventually create a singularity.

Humans can not make something from nothing. How can you create something from nothing? Only a supreme being can do that and scientists are not supreme beings.
