I was addressing the subject in general, rather than this specific instance directly -- for the "some reason" that I've personally witnessed numerous friends and relatives suffering the experience I described. I don't agree with the MGTOW movement, but I understand where the perspective comes from.

I have no comment on this guy and this girl, or the wife. I don't know enough of their circumstances to feel qualified to judge. I was married for 38 years, so I feel qualified to comment on that.

It breaks your heart for people to have expectations? There is no moral superiority in settling for a cave troll and telling yourself that you look past the physical and fall in love with the mind. If someone doesn't have enough self-respect to look their best under their given circumstances, then we have a problem.
When I look in the mirror I see a guy who gets up at 4am to fit weightlifting and running into the day. We all can only work with what we got -- my brothers are all taller and better looking than I am. Looking at my family history, I'll probably go bald -- I can't control it so I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I'm no supermodel but I take care of myself and try to look my best, and if I'm shallow for expecting a potential spouse to do the same, sue me. Putting on a crapload of weight and opting for a butch haircut are controllable factors.
I assume you weren’t married at the time, that makes a little difference!
Neither married nor her manager, so all was cool, even by today’s standards.
