Here we go again.
Utter confusion between
- forced political globalization that tears down national sovereignty and political borders versus
- the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers in the open and free marketplace that is NO threat to national sovereignty or political borders, but prospers and strengthens a nation, its sovereignty and political borders.
Americans are waking up!
Fixed it.
I tend to support what Trump campaigned on.
America took a Free Trade on a three-decade test drive.
In 2016 they handed the keys back and said “No Sale!”
Agree.
Chrysler moving back to MI from Mexico is one example, the Chicoms building a solar panel plant in the US is another.
There's many many examples of how Trump has changed the world's dynamic toward investing in jobs in the United States.
Here’s a plan to fully fund the federal gov’t:
-restore Constitutional money
- adopt spending plans which are consistent with Art 1 Sec 8
- zero the income tax on wages for EVERYONE
- maintain a reasonable corporate income tax and taxes on profits (eg. dividends)
- use tariffs and excises to fund the needs of the Republic per Art 1 Sec 8
“- the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers in the open and free marketplace”
That does not, and has never existed in the history of world trade.
Smithsonian “Free Trade” is but a theory, unproven as it has never existed.
The nations of the world, from time immemorial, have practiced Mercantilism. Those who did not were picked clean and ceased to exist.
I hope you're right...the American System on which Trump's MAGA economic policy is based has been around since Alexander Hamilton.
I am not concerned by what people are paid in other countries. I justify a tariff as ensuring imported products and services pay taxes in our country which incidentally covers wage differences. A tariff will provide tax income that should offset income tax.
We should NEVER penalize gainful domestic employment over cheap goods from SH countries. Period.
Buyers and sellers are completely free to buy and sell with a tax in place.
Tariffs do not penalize earning of income.
Well said!!!
China systematically stole U.S. industries .
china manipulated currency, used many unfair trade barriers etc. to steal and destroy U.S. factories, industries, wealth, Technology and manufacturing capability
In the last 30 years China has done the greatest theft in world history stealing most of the U.S.A's technology, patents, industries , markets, wealth, factories.
The USA is now a 3rd world country 20 tillion in debt because of you and Barack Obama who you agree with.
After ww2 the USA was on top of the world . Most of Asia and Europe were in ruins. Africa etc. were in the stone age . Most of the world was in the stone Age. Japan and China and U.S. politicians stole all the wealth of the USA which is why the USA is in debt for 20 tillion dollars and most of it to Japan and China.
30 years ago there was nothing in China . The USA built China where we could have built on top of what we had.
The USA doesn't have to trade with China. The USA can have free trade between states , cities ,companies individuals inside the USA. America first.
China has been waging an economic war against the USA for 30 plus years. Just as those don't see that Islam has also don't see that. America first . Fortress America.

Yay!
George Washington put a tariff on British shipping, and Boston shipbuilding exploded in growth.
Reagan put a 100% tariff on Japanese motorcycles and save Harley.
Trump should put tariffs on Chinese manufactured goods, OPEC oil and Canadian lumber.
You people have been brainwashed by the Leftist Keynesians.
America’s economy in the 1800’s was mainly a free market economy and practiced a great deal of free trade. As a result, the United States was not only the freest, but coming out of the 1800’s into the 1900’s, became the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth.
Why are so many on the Right including some on FR confused about the sublime benefits of freedom over government command and control? Freedom and the free market aren’t perfect, but freedom is WAY ahead of whatever’s in second place.
America in the 1800’s had a federal government that spent about 5% GDP - relatively small and non-invasive. America in the 1800’s was one of the freest counties ever to exist in history and its economy was essentially a market economy free from government interference. Tariffs were relatively minor and were used effectively at our beginnings to protect our fledgling industries grow in our new country. Going into the 1800’s America was up and running. Tariffs, again a minor issue then and not significant, were validly used for revenue, but mistakenly to “protect” maturing/mature industries.
Tariffs penalize and are a tax on the American consumer and lower our standard of living. Tariffs today are a palliative, not a curative, measure having the appearance of fixing something, but as with most government programs, actually make matters worse.

Tariffs do nothing to make American industry more competitive, which is the core issue here.

Tariffs are like shooting yourself in the foot because the other guy shot himself in the foot.
In the meantime the economic confusion around the world including China drives stupid things like currency manipulation which changes nothing as far the as the value of a product, it just confuses the measure of that value. A company that undercuts its prices to win more customers at some point will have to stop or go under. Likewise, countries like China cannot sustain such stupid currency manipulation as a substitute for substantive competitive products.
There’s so much confusion surrounding this subject like the idea that per se, somehow imports are “bad” and exports are “good”. What stupid thinking.
The REAL cause of industry fleeing our country is GOVERNMENT in the form of high taxes, unconstitutional suffocating regulations, unconstitutional forced business-killing minimum wage, unconstitutional competitive-killing subsidies (bribes), and unconstitutional union protection. Tariffs fix none of those things. But doing away with those things fixes the problem allowing our industries and economy to take off, grow, and prosper mightily.
