We had primitive smart bombs in the late 1969...called them “paveway”...
camera like nose device with the controlled tail fins....fast preflight
check with ordinary flashlight would get the fins going....if ya walked by with the light you could actually see the can follow you and the fins adjust accordingly....used give me the Wilkie’s knowing a two grander was watching you....”grins*
We retrofit them with fins and seeker heads and make smart bombs out of them. Much more efficient.
Well, that works. Just so long as we’re no longer trying to fight these SOB’s with one hand tied behind our back any longer. Going on two decades, and we’re still getting our men killed over there.
We should have left c. 2003, right after the punitive expedition phase, before the meals on wheels phase. Declared victory, told them dont do that again, or well come back and REALLY mess you up, and left the area.
Gd bless you father. The Taliban is getting quite an advanced education in the power of the US Air Force.
Yeah. I’d volunteer to ride a JDAM down onto the target like Slim Pickens did in “Dr. Strangelove’’. YAHOO!!!
With video. This was part of a 96-hour air campaign against the Taliban. Score: Air Force B-52 - 1, Taliban - 0
Allah Akbr....[no signal]
“Yeah. Id volunteer to ride a JDAM down onto the target* like Slim Pickens did in Dr. Strangelove. YAHOO!!!

Gonna be even harder to spot them with their new uniforms. I’m pretty sure this is a joke....can’t possibly be a real thing... can it?
No. And we don't have enough BUFFs left to do a proper carpet-bombing. And we never had enough BOnes or B2s to do it. And smart bombs are just dumb bombs with a guidance package bolted on.
