I don’t think so. He’s just desperate for the Kurds not to have a state, anywhere. If he would have invaded at the start of the Syrian civil war and the height of Isis, the whole world would have backed him.
“I dont believe Erdogan will make a move on Manbij with US forces there. He will talk and bluster and threaten but will not do it.”
“Reality, If Turkey or the FSA fires on US troops in Syria, it will be returned.”
That is the bottom line - unacceptable costs to Turkey to attack, if the USA holds its ground. I would expect the Turkish Military to kick up an especially large fuss with Erdogan, if ordered into such an attack.
In the article, it seems that the most positive statements of US intent were those of the reporter, rather than COL Dillon. It does seem like Manbij will be the real red line though.
I think we can do without the Turkey aircraft runways....that's where our interest is right now.
NATO should have ended with the USSR. A confrontation with Turkey might put an end to it and that is what good might come out of it.
Those nukes are long gone.
While I hope you are correct, Ive seen nothing in the news to make me think that. And a number of items that say theyre still there.
I think NATO has a place. I don’t think that Erdogan the Islamist’s Turkey has a place in NATO.
I wish there was a solution with Efrin. The price in blood and lives is already to high.
Erdogan is playing with live primed dynamite, if he explodes it, the response may bring much larger conflicts upon Turkey.
He is playing to his brainwashed base in Turkey prior to the 2019 elections. It could be fatal if this goes off.
He did, he supported the Jihadi’s.
Even when he entered in the name of stopping ISIS, he did nothing. Marked time and pretended to want to stop ISIS.
He actually protected ISIS.
He still does. Some ISIS, al Qaeda (Nusra) and other Jihadi’s are in his FSA militia’s. He shelters ISIS and al Qaeda from harm in Turkey and allows them free movement. And the Headquarters for the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorists is in Turkey.
So, he is on the wrong team, and totally incompatible with NATO goals.
Good thought. Not going to happen soon.
Answer? No
Have been gone a long time.
Not sure how many, but have seen videos of them using TOWs on Turk tanks, near Efrin (some time ago). They were responding to an invasion then.
I’ve heard rumors about the aircraft variety being furnished. That was rumor in foreign commentary.
Guess we will see. I do know the Turks have lost some helicopters. Don’t think there is a report of that in Efrin. I do know they were fired on. I suspect with heavy machine gun. There was some damage reported.
Kurds are very good people and very tough soldiers. They know I respect them.
Yes, very good observation. And I agree.
If he continues much longer, he will regret it.
He is playing with a force he thinks is weak, that is not.
Our presence in other areas in Syria are not an issue. In Efrin it is different. It is in Russian controlled air space.
If it was the (milti ethnic) SDF directly in Efrin and not the YPG we would deal with it.
This is a cat and mouse game with Erdogan, Iran and Assad. Russia moved away from it, I’m sure at their direction.
Russia has a long history of working with the Kurds, and cooperated with the US in Syria defending them.
Russia does what is in it’s interest.
I’m about to post this:
“Turkey commits a crime and Russia is after its own interests”

Very good article.
