I think Harlan Fiske Stone sums it up well enough,
"I don't mind what he [Chief Prosecutor Jackons] does to the Nazis, but I hate to see the pretense that he is running a court and proceeding according to common law. This is a little too sanctimonious a fraud to meet my old-fashioned ideas."That the Soviets solemnly presided over the conviction of Germans for "Aggression against Poland" also sums up an aspect of the proceedings. The military men, like Jodl and Keitel, should have been granted firing squads for carrying out the Commissar Order, rather than being punished for that particular charge.
