[Here in California, we have multiple layers of taxes on gasoline. There’s the federal gas tax, the state gas tax, sales tax is levied on gas in California, and then there’s also a global warming tax per gallon.]

In the state of Washington a few years ago all the gas pumps had the price of gas plus the tax levied on it. Stirred some people up, it did. It stirred the legislature up so bad that they passed legislation forbidding posting the tax on gas.

The fun part is the state of Washington puts all their gas tax money into the “General Fund,” which goes to welfare and so forth. And there’s never enough money in the General Fund to finance highway construction and repair.
