The French military itself is a tough fighting force. Even during World War II, the French soldier himself fought hard and well. However, their leaders learned the wrong lesson from World War I- avoid war at any costs, instead of develop new technology so we don't have fight in the trenches anymore.

I still have a high regard for the French military...it's just that their leadership is a bunch of EU weenies who are scared of their own shadow, and the 10-12% Muslim population they allowed into their country.

Macron is thinking money. France is doing big business with Iran...

Germany is doing big business with Iran, too.

This is all about money.

If war isn't an option, then neither is insisting on a nuclear free Iran or North Korea for that matter. When you are serious about the latter, then comments like Macron's may be expected.

The problem is that our policy for the last 30 years has been the choice of "inaction" as Hillary Clinton suggests in regards to the nuclear programs of Iran and North Korea. She defends that because "no war" is the stronger insistence than no nukes. That is why we have the mess we have now and continuing on that path will end with Iran and nuclear tipped missiles that can destroy Israel and North Korea with the same to threaten Japan, South Korea, and the USA.

The problem has been kicked down the road for so long that the policy of "inaction" has now been formalized as some kind of wise choice that has brought peace all these many years. And people actually buy that trash. It is pretty clear now that something bad is going to happen, and the best we can expect is to minimize and localize the bad.

I wouldn't want Trump's job, that's for sure. But at least he seems up to the task.

If the frogs are this worried, then they need to get their troops ready for an all out war. The first and foremost items to requisition would be white flags.

Thanks caww.
Macron's statement lays blame on France's allies rather than its estranged trade partner Iran
No it doesn't. France blames Israel and the US. Clearly Macron doesn't regard either one as an ally of France.

Us? In a war between Saudi Arabia, Israel, a few of the gulf states and probably Egypt and Iran, Russia will want no part of it, what is France's role? They can wait and sell supplies to both sides to rebuild. And if they're concerned about an Iranian nuclear strike, well, it a strike on Israel is no big deal, same for France. Besides, southern France, like Spain and southern Italy is part of the Ummah. They've no reason to complain.

France, engaged in many major wars over the last few centuries, but no demonstrable track record to envy. Other than the luck of having the US intervene a couple times.

“what is France’s role?”

Surrendering. What else.

“France, engaged in many major wars over the last few centuries, but no demonstrable track record to envy. Other than the luck of having the US intervene a couple times.”

You forget the War of Independence, which was won by the intervention of France.

France would be wise to instead worry about its own imminent civil war.

Same goes for Western Europe as a whole.

What do the French know about war other than surrendering?

The French generals relied excessively on the Maginot line and unlimited logistical support from England.
