I don’t think anyone has anyone else’s good in mind. It’s just a money grab. They think we’re addicted, but they’re also shocked when we avoid their filthy movies. Just another thing to live without, and you’ll live longer and be better for it.

"What’s next? A tax because I choose extra soft toilet paper?"

The intent is to change your behavior and get your money.

Whatever doing that requires....maybe toilet paper next, eh

“Advocates of the tax held a press conference on Friday, to explain how the city plans to use the $15 million expected to be raised from the tax in 2018.”

Hey - maybe they can use it to offset the loss of revenues from the increased Washington state gas tax. The tax price per gallon went up, people drove less, bought electric cars, and now gas tax revenues are way down. Although I imagine the newest idea of having all cars monitored and a per-mile tax will be enacted.

Actually, the sugary drinks will include beverages like Snapple, Starbuck’s Chilled Frappuccino and Red Bull energy drinks. The Seattle Seahawks had better come up with an alternative to Gatorade. BTW, once this taxation method has been established, it will be applied to anything considered unhealthful like that demon hamburger meat.

Change your behavior? In Chicago, which has since repealed theirs, it had folks buying outside Cook County. In Philly, it’s got them drinking more booze.

This is a money grab. And the money grubbing pols don’t give a tinker’s dam about the collateral damage.

KVI radio was talking about how this same taxing scheme would be applied to a carbon tax. The distributors of fossil fuels would be assessed a tax on the carbon component in the fuel, which would be passed on to the consumer. The price of that pesky gasoline and diesel would go up. Easy peasy for the money-grubbing Tax-o-cRATs.

Uh, I’m not so sure about that. Why would sugary drinks be harmful again?

They just want the money.......

Why not just tax overweight people yearly...so much per pound...

This country used to be free now we’re slaves to government...

Next big tax in blue state is a mileage tax...

Good one... living in a utopian paradise!

I am fat, but I rarely drink any soda. I also do not eat at McDonalds, so I got fat eating my own cooking at home. Cannot blame Coke or burgers or fries! I don’t eat dessert, I don’t like sweets, candy, etc. Sugar is not the culprit.

You are so wrong on so many levels. Under our Constitution the federal government may regulate interstate commerce, and the states can exercise powers not reserved to the feds or the people themselves. No where in the Constitution is any right to consume what you wish as a personal choice. Your belief in that is do ill founded and part of the lefts endeavor to destroy the Constitution and political liberty.

If your personal choice error was legitimized I would have the personal choice to feed my kids rat poison. Coke and sugar is basically long term rat poison leading to obesity and disease. The epidemic is very real and the kids are going to suffer more than you can imagine. You must really not care.
, though it has the NIH freaked out of their minds when they project the future results.

"People will smuggle soda. A lot more Kool-Aid will be drunk. Etc."

I remember when they first banned R-12 refrigerant for air conditioning.

I read that people down in Florida were smuggling R-12 from abroad and making more money than drug smugglers.
