The author is a Jewish atheist NYU professor who was raised in New York City by self-proclaimed communist parents. He said that he used to be ultra-liberal, but he has undergone a dramatic change to where he is now simply left-of-center in his politics. He is very much against the SJW fanaticism on campuses. He is a classic liberal. It is good to have somebody with his background on our side. He has the credentials that may make some people willing to listen to him, rather than us who have always been conservative.

Orthodox Jews and orthodox Christians would sum all this up as: We forgot God. And are reaping the consequences.

Although this is not exactly a Federalist/Anti-Federalist issue, it’s one of the best articles I’ve read in quite a while. The author weaves the Constitution and the Federalist Papers into his narrative.

“The Age of Outrage”

Don’t know the exact age, but it’s definitely getting old.

Thanks for the ping.

But first, let’s ask: How did we mess things up so badly?

"We" didn't mess anything up. Many allow anti-truth, irrational liars/deceivers/scumbags/criminals to continue to destroy without consequence.

The lie is the weapon used most often by the criminal. It takes a criminal to raze a republic.

Witness events.

The article fails in its understanding of the two major dynamics in contemporary politics. 1 - It does not acknowledge the brain dead influence of Marxism. 2- It paints conservative thought as reactionary and destructive.
Otherwise it is an interesting look at communism trying to save itself from itself.

This is still so much socialist tripe with every few sentences skimming toward reason. Newt Gingrich brought on half of the decline in civility and comity in our nation? Balderdash, stuff and nonsense!

My field—social psychology—for example, is quite sane.

I'm sorry, but that makes me laugh so hard I can barely type.

Haidt is good friends with Camille Paglia, a liberal lesbian feminist, who is tired and frightened by how far left and totalitarian the feminist movement has become. She calls out specific founders of the women's movement as being psychologically unstable sex-hating, man-loathing ideologues.

Haidt is also good friends with Jordan Peterson, one of the greatest heroes of our era. He was fighting a lonely battle against a horrifying new law in Canada called Bill C-16. The bill would in essence require people to use the goofy pronouns that trannies wanted you to or risk fines and jail time.

Unlike Haidt, Peterson has given up on the academy. He is liberal as well, but defiantly anti-Marxist and believes the universities have become total captives of Marxist and post-modernist thought. He is gathering money through Paypal and Patreon to create a totally live on-line set of courses taught by noted professors. Sort of like the MOOC's but with greater attention to reading, writing, discussion, and self-reflection.

Paglia and Peterson both have many great videos on YouTube including this amazing discussion between them. It gives me hope that conversations like this are still possible in the US without relegating the participants to public damnation and historical obscurity:

Haidt understands a lot but he doesn't seem to understand the internal dynamics of what is left of the Republican Party.

If the GOPe leadership even occasionally tried to represent the interests of the members then we wouldn't be so angry and combative.

It wasn't that long ago that many Republicans were still calling for a complete end to Social Security and Medicare. We're much more tame now. All we're asking for is that the people that receive SS and Medicare be limited to legal citizens.

Tea Party and other conservative/libertarian groups have to yell louder to yell past the GOPe leadership bent on compromising with the Dems. And why should we reach across the table when we see how ineffective it has been for the GOPe who are willing to bend themselves into unimaginable positions to little effect?

Newt's only real failure was being a two-timing scumbag like Clinton and undermining the conservative message.

One of the greatest paradoxes of politics: Strong personalities are much more effective than good policy in getting legislation through, but people with strong personalities tend to have great peccadilloes and feet of clay.

Indeed. There is nothing new under the sun. Judgment is coming, and will continue.

Georgia Sixth just wanted our congressman to represent us rather than turn tail and run like a coward. Feet of clay.

Interesting read and I thank you for posting it. I agree with the general theme but stumble with clear atheist leanings which voids some of his words, for me. I’m thankful he and others are giving thoughtful consideration regarding the zoo atmosphere on campuses and had to read twice the line about raising kids like veal, so dang true!
