That's depressing.
Yup. I said the same thing when I read it when they made the decision. Gotta win that war on drugs don't ya know. The Constitution means nothing when it runs up against the power of the feral police state.
I’d like to hear Thomas’ reasoning.
I disagree. We had a revolution over the aristocracy from England coming over and taking whatever they wanted, so we started shooting them.
I suspect it's a part of that whole "law and order" thing that sometimes leads people astray from recognizing that the needs of the state aren't always paramount. It's one of those things that has most frustrated me about folks who are otherwise fairly straight-up originalists. The same thing seems to happen in support of the surveillance state. The phrases "national security" and "war on drugs" appear to completely trump the Constitution in some people's minds.
I wonder if he regrets it.
Police aren’t even supposed to ask you to exit your vehicle unless they have a clearly articulated reasonable suspicion that you have broken the law.
Anything else is fishing, which is illegal.
I hope he has reconsidered.
Legally correct.
Proceduraly, you don’t exit when they tell you they will draw a gun.
This is reality.
