I have been saying for years that we need to bring back the draft. At this point, the draft can be for both men and women. To welcome in self-harming recruits tells me the Army is running out of qualified applicants. The majority of bi-polar people who would be fine in the service, but a small number of them are likely to refuse to take their medications, thus altering their behavior. The Army will need to develop policies or training programs for this.
So you want to bring back the draft? Essentially you are promoting ANTIFA, BLM, and criminal gangs to get combat training.
The current recruiting issue with the Army has more to do with who was president the last 8 years than anything else. As a guy that retired from the National Guard with 4.5 years Active duty in the Army and around 16 in the Guard I don’t agree with you. The military goes through cycles, and a bunch of those kids, especially the ones that were on medication for ADD are going to be fantastic NCO’s. The ones who can’t hack it will be discharged. When I was in post first Gulf War tons of people were discharged because of performance issues, then offers were made for early outs. Anyone that served for 15 years plus recently has seen these issues crop up over time.
Since the Army and Marines both train their members to 2 levels above and 2 levels below their position/rank, the draft will simply fill the E1 through E3 ranks during a national military crisis. Take a E-4 promotable, bump him to buck sergeant, give him 4-5 draftees to train up to be competent riflemen squad members.

It’s a great system and other than getting rid of the stupid touchy feely EEOC, affirmative action, and 3rd wave feminism (aka cultural marxism) stuff, nothing needs to be changed.

If they want more and better recruits, they need to make them, by taking below standard civilians and bringing them up to par before enlistment. And this can be done at low cost.
The military can create fenced 500 acre camps around the US, with tents and cots for sleeping and as mess hall, shower and porta potty latrines. The camps are run by veterans. The possible recruits show up with a list of things they are to bring with them: tennis shoes, exercise clothing, toiletries and little else.
They are given individualized diets, and spend their days exercising. The idea is that by the time they enter basic training they are above standards by a goodly amount.
Some special camps are for those potential enlistees who do not come up to standards for literacy. Other than once daily exercising, they spend their time in classroom.
In both cases, the more enlisted personnel who *start* basic training without the need for remedial physical or educational training, the more who will get better basic training.
Mattis is an abject failure at Defense,having not lifted a finger to roll back Obama policies or sequester. My greatest disappointment with Trump is his standing by while the military continues to die of internal rot and moral decay.
