Republicans could learn something from Democrats in this regard.
Democrats never turn their back on one of their own, until and unless the arrest warrant is signed and the miscreant is hauled off to jail. Otherwise, as long as the Democrat toes the line, other Dems will protect him.
On the other hand, Democrats know that Republicans will drop support at the slightest hint of an allegation, regardless of whether existence exists. And they use that knowledge to repeatedly attack strong Republican candidates to erode support just enough to dissuade voters from showing up.
I think we are improving a tiny bit—the Dems did the same to Trump, and continue to try to smear him with false allegations. But we still support him. We—both voters and representatives—need to learn to demand credible evidence before dropping our support, any time there is an allegation.
Maybe he is a crypto-GOPe guy. There are plenty of fake conservatives in the GOP - talk a great game to the peasants, obey their donors/controllers when the chips are down.
