Right to assemble?

Not at FSU.

"...following the death of a fraternity pledge..."

Was the pledge a male or a female?

Careful now!

That's not the slam dunk question that it used to be.

“Which ones won’t last...”?

Forcing pledges to drink insane amounts of liquor fast is stupid beyond all belief

>>It was a voluntary association I could have walked away from at any time.

At that age and maturity level (not just of you but most people) you wouldn’t have walked away. You would have been afraid to deal with any consequences. Again, not you specifically but people that age. Now, more so.

Frats and sororities are a waste of effort and money. And no, I wasn’t turned down. I never rushed. In fact, I left a heavily greek school for one that sold itself as one big fraternity. Had the time of my life.

>>It’s like the school prays that a dead student is in a fraternity so they can blame them.

FSU and other schools have had huge frat problems for decades. The schools themselves mostly have statutory immunity but the school brass doesn’t. If they don’t do something about this, it will lead to litigation.

Blame the Greeks? Are the Amish off the hook for awhile?

How is it that a government institution can violate American’s right to Freedom of Association under the 1st Amendment, even those of college students who are legal adults. It’s time for some class action lawsuits here. I think the Trump DOJ needs to start suing these universities in federal court.

Public universities and colleges cannot see the massive beat-down coming their way from an enraged public.

I rushed the fraternity my dad was in and didn’t get a bid. I didn’t know at the time that legacies were pretty much a shoe in, but in retrospect if they weren’t going to take me on my own merits them screw em.

There wouldn’t have been consequences for dropping out of the pledge program, except I wouldn’t have gotten my pledge fee back. (My parents would have been delighted.) But the point is that it’s a voluntary association, and the university is an extension of the nanny state. Same mentality.

Sorority girls can be mean but they rarely kill people.

Phew! That's a relief! I'd really hate to be 'rarely killed' by a Sorority sister!

Sports teams have WAY more issues than fraternities

My daughter graduated from FSU and was in a wonderful sorority. She loved her friends and had a fantastic experience. Apparently this guy was a 20 yr old transfer from another Univ and was at an off campus party. Not at the frat. They don’t even know if he died from drinking. One of my daughter’s sorority sisters died in her apartment but it was from a brain aneurysm. They are just looking for a way to destroy the idea of fraternal organizations that are selective.

BS. They’re just reported more when they do happen. Fraternity hazing leading to death and serious injuries has been pretty significant over the years. Given the numbers that participate in sports at all levels vs. frats, your statement couldn’t be more incorrect.
