This is one angle of the story that makes the guy’s plan seem amateurish. I don’t know anyone over the age of 8 who would even think that a bullet would penetrate the exterior of a fuel tank like that.

It is laughable and displays the ignorance of the media "experts". The supposed “experts” on FOX tonight were blathering on and on about this and how lucky it was that the tanks didn't explode. The fact that the guy was apparently wasting his ammo shooting at these fuel tanks is a sign that this probably was not an operation planned by professionals from a foreign intelligence agency. So this probably was not an act of war perpetrated by a foreign government.

These tanks can explode when hit by an artillery shell or a bomb because the tank is ruptured and a vapor cloud is formed. However if a tiny bullet from a 223 or even a larger 30 caliber rifle was to penetrate a tank full of “jet fuel” aka “kerosene” it most likely wouldn't do anything other than possibly cause the tank to leak. The fuel to air mixture would be very unlikely to be in the right proportion to support combustion. In normal temperatures if the part of the tank that the bullet penetrated had less than 95% air in it... the mixture would be too rich to burn. Even if somehow it did start some of the contents on fire, the air would be consumed quickly and the pressure release apparatus would most likely release any gasses formed before the tank was damaged.

“The bullets left holes, but did not penetrate...”

Well, by definition, if the didn’t penetrate, they did not “leave holes”.

Who writes this stuff...?!?!

For these tanks the wall itself is the structure, there is no internal framing, the plates are necessarily heavy. 3/4 inch plus of mild steel. No way a 0.223 is getting through that.

” I don’t know anyone over the age of 8 who would even think that a bullet would penetrate the exterior of a fuel tank like that.”

Maybe it was some of those cop killer, armor piercing bullets that Clinton, Warren, Feinstein, and Bloomberg talk so much about.

Liberals have no concept of the damage that Evil combined with Human Ingenuity can inflict on the Innocent.

Take for instance the person that figured out how to perform Late Term Abortions and the guy who brought it to Planned Parenthood.

Good thing he didn’t have a silencer, or they surely would have exploded the tanks.

Probably just ricochets coming from the front stage area. Angle of entry would be similar.

If I really just wanted to kill lots of people... Trust me on this, I wouldn’t need lots of guns. I could make the list, but I don’t want to give anyone any ideas here.

And Number 1 on the list would be to elect Democrats Communists/Socialists as Presidents. They tend to get a lot of Americans (and other folks) killed. Death by Government.

We had a water tank shot and the bullet penetrated the steel. Bullet recovered in bottom of tank was of the fifty cal variety. Sixty foot tank hit about the forty foot mark

The mixture of fuel and air must be within a fairly narrow range as well.

Wow really 3/4”?? Do you know that or are you guessing?
That’s about double what I would have guessed.

I shot a piece of a 5x5 tube section that had 5/16” walls with my sks and the bullet made a perfect hole through both walls. I expected it to get stopped inside...

Las Vegas shooter looked into hotel room across from larger music festival
7:57 AM, Oct 4, 2017

...An official told ABC News on Tuesday night that Stephen Paddock was looking into getting a room across at The Ogden, a hotel near the festival grounds for the “Life is Beautiful” concert.

The “Life is Beautiful” concert attracted nearly 50,000 concert goers each day between Sept. 22 and 24. Approximately 22,000 people were at the Route 91 festival when Paddock opened fire.

Headliners at “Life is Beautiful” included the Gorillaz, Lorde, Chance the Rapper and Blink-182...

Tracers are just bullets with a little phosphorous on them that glows when they are fired, so the enemy can see where they are coming from, in order to even things up. Phosphorous is what makes matches light.

When Japanese WW-2 aircraft (without self sealing tanks) were hit with tracers they burned, well like a leaking fuel tank with a match applied.

And it would have been sufficient diversion to enable his escape.

Might also have distracted the crowd, so it would take longer before they knew they were under fire.

Fox is walking this back this am. Housley says shooter may have just been shooting at the crowd piled upon on the fence - which was actually breached.
