There is little doubt that the autonomous region of Catalonia has become a prime base of operations for terrorist activity.

There is an unfortunate history of Muslims being invited into Spanish cities by minorities.

This referendum was set up by minority vote, when one group left the parliament short of a quorum. The vote to vote was taken anyway, so the Spanish gov't is correct, the referendum was not legally set up. Unfortunately, the Spanish gov't bungled the response.

I’m for Spain hanging together... that’s too bad, I didn’t know it was such a big problem. Maybe Spain would be better without Catalonia.

Remember way back in the day, when Islam gained a foothold in the Iberian peninsula ?
It took almost 400 years to get them all out of Iberia and Europe.

“Maybe Spain would be better without Catalonia.”

Yeah, but the rest of the world, including Spain, would not. Just what we need, another hotbed of Islamic terrorists, who will eventually overtake its Catalan hosts and become a new Islamic State right on Europe’s border. Great.

Propaganda. Catalonia is by far the welthiest and populous province of Spain. That is the number one reason why the government doesn’t want to let it go. It haturally has more Muslims than Aragon for the very same reason.

there may be upwards of 60,000 Pakistanis living in Barcelona and the surrounding area; the vast majority are male, unmarried or unaccompanied, and without legal documentation.

Perhaps the good news is, they may not reproduce, and can be sent back easily.

Re: The Islamic Republic of Catalonia

That is a very depressing essay.

It puts the entire independence issue, which I originally supported, under a new light.

Vooch: "fake news"

NorseViking: "Propaganda"

The essay is published by the Gatestone Institute.

John Bolton, former U.N. Ambassador and reliable Conservative, is Gatestone’s Chairman.

Unless you have some hard data to back up your opinions, I think the essay is very persuasive.

I don’t see a thing in the article to back bombastic headline.
A great many places in Europe has it much worse but the author seems to care about Catalonia at this point.
The timing is suspicious isn’t it?

You know - it’s the Truth. Don’t let it depress you. Once you see things very clearly you can deal with them. When they are shimmering with the gauzy film of ‘let’s pretend’ and utopian thinking, you cannot fight them for what they truly are.

I celebrate the VERY free press these days. The MSM can put out faux news, but they cannot control all the bloggers who really know what is going on. The Truth will set you free.

Look at the ‘news’ (and I use the word loosely), that goes out around the world about President Trump. If you only read that, you’d think he should be strung up. It’s ALL propaganda and you have to discern and suspect and discern some more.

I read all of it with a grain of salt, frankly - gathering information. I’ll see what sticks in the long run.

Zeestephen - thank YOU very much. Really easy to toss labels, and it is meant to shut the other person up or to shame them back into the corner, but the Truth is available for those who search. And it always rings true when you find it.

vooch: “Bolton is a neocon hack.”

zeestephen: Neocon? Yes. Hack? No. By the way vooch, the Free Republic software keeps changing your address from "To: vooch" to "To: vouch." Weird. Never seen that happen before. I had to go back and change the spelling both times I responded to your Comments.

NorseViking: “I don’t see a thing in the article to back up the bombastic headline.

zeestephen: OK. That's a fair criticism. On the other hand, anytime large numbers of immigrant Muslims support a political position, I am instinctively against it. Before reading this essay, I was actually in favor of Catalonia independence. Now, I am moderately negative.
