Poor baby. God forbid that he should stand up against peer pressure and do something on principle. He’s a military hero, for Pete’s sake. And he can’t handle some double-digit-IQ thugs giving him some crap? Sorry; I have less respect for him than I did for the others.

He signed a four year $24 million contract. Not exactly chump change. Without knowing the conditions specified in the contract, he could be jeopardizing his future and his family's. He did the right thing by standing for the national anthem. I don't expect him to take on the NFL alone.

But it wasn’t a hostage tape. A hostage tape is serious buisness; this is a game.

It is more than a game. It is big business and big money. It is easy for you to moralize and criticize, but you aren't in his shoes. You don't have to practice every day with your teammates and coaches. You don't have to wear a target on your back for your opponents who will take their own revenge for not being part of the unity movement. Villanueva has sacrificed a lot for his country in war. I don't expect him to forego millions of dollars and his job to make you and others happy. Unfortunately, this is the way the real world works.

Appalling. Villanueva is a former Army Ranger who served 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan, and earned the Bronze Star.

And now he's more worried about offending his stupid NFL teammates and coach, than standing with his fellow members of the military respecting our flag and National Anthem??

WTF has happened to our country???

That’s ok #78, I forgive you for accidentally respecting the Anthem, Flag, and Country...you did provide a brief spark of hope for awhile....

He stood for the national anthem--alone. I don't expect him to sacrifice his job and millions of dollars to satisfy his new critics who were recently praising him. Would you give up $24 million to make a further point beyond what you have already done? Hasn't he sacrificed enough for his country?

Too late, he folded under pressure. A sorry excuse for a Ranger. Take off the beret and tab and never wear them again!!!!

Imagine this guy as one of the Rangers storming the cliffs at Normandy? Nah, he would have hidden to see first how the fight was going to go.

Alejandro Villanueva is an American hero. I was pleased and proud to see that he *refused* to cower in the locker room per the orders of his SJW coach, and for the sake of so-called "team unity".

Now Villanueva is stating he is "embarrassed" that he stood with his hand over his heart during our National Anthem?? You're OK with that?

No way will he have to give up $24 million for not exercising "team unity" by cowering in the locker room during the playing of the National Anthem. Let me know if/when that happens.

"It's quite the opposite. They all would have ... actually the entire team would have been out there with me, even the ones who wanted to take a knee would have been with me had they known these extreme circumstances that at Soldier Field, in the heat of the moment, when I've got soldiers, wounded veterans texting me that I have to be out there, I think everything would have been put aside, from every single one of my teammates, no doubt."

Three tours in Afghanistan, a Bronze Star with Valor and the guy's a "pathetic turd"???

Two words for Alejandro Villanueva from his REAL teammates:

RANGER UP!

Now Villanueva is stating he is "embarrassed" that he stood with his hand over his heart during our National Anthem?? You're OK with that?

He didn't say that. "I see that picture of me standing by myself and I'm embarrassed to a degree, because unintentionally I left my teammates behind," Villanueva said. "It wasn't me stepping forward. I never planned to boycott. ... At the end of the day, whether I want it or not, whether it was my intended plan or not, the reason I went out there by myself is the reason it's causing all this distress."

Villanueva will not stop standing for the anthem, and he said his teammates wanted to stand as well. Roethlisberger and Heyward said the team will be on the sideline during future anthem presentations.

"People die for the flag. There's no way else to put it," Villanueva said. "I wish I could stay at home. I wish we could all play 'Call of Duty' and not have to go to war. But some men, some women sign up for this tough challenge and they have to do it for the flag. When I see a flag on the mission on the shoulder of a soldier, that reminds me that the guy's with me. ... That's what the flag means to me, that's what the flag means to a lot of veterans. I think my teammates respected this thoroughly; it was just not communicated and the plan did not allow them the chance to go out and support me."

No way will he have to give up $24 million for not exercising "team unity" by cowering in the locker room during the playing of the National Anthem. Let me know if/when that happens.

You have no knowledge of what is in his contract. It could be performance based. Regardless, he did not dishonor the flag or the national anthem. And he refused to criticize the President.
