alcohol existed legally for a millennium before prohibition, and it existed nearly unfettered during prohibition.

Marijuana existed legally for a millennium before 1937, and it exists nearly unfettered under today's federal laws.

zealots that still try to push the alcohol argument.

What exactly do you think is the "alcohol argument" I'm "pushing"?

And probably spend $500 million a year to take care of the deadheads that get hooked so hard on it to the point they can’t function as a useful member of society. Hey, maybe that’s where all the zombies I see stories about on TV come from.

Marijuana is less addictive than alcohol, just FYI.

If it is anything like Colorado, and I am sure it is, the money will be spent several times over before it is even collected. This results in a “deficit”. NO kidding. Colorado spent the pot tax revenues before they even got them and now complains that there isn’t enough pot tax revenue.

Legalized, heavily-taxed pot... keeping our stupid poor people stupid and poor.

"California state bureaucrats and politicians are almost giddy over the $1.8 billion in annual tax revenue that the New Frontier Financials expects the state will collect from its 15 percent excise and dry-weight taxes on weed.

"But many of California’s 58 counties and 482 cities are also competing to cash in on the recreational marijuana bonanza by tacking on a local sin sales tax of up to 25 percent of purchase price. Cities including Tulare, Coalinga, Del Rey Oaks, and others have stated that they will use local marijuana tax collections to pay for rapidly increasing public pension contributions that are threatening their solvency."

That's 40% so far, and doesn't include the growers, wholesalers, transporters, dispensaries, "each individual's permit to buy the weed" (it exists now), etc.

There will be more and more taxes since the conservatives will not be inclined to act as a check on the liberal's natural propensity to tax. The black market will still be very active.

And they will have to train inspectors, police and prosecutors to enforce all these laws... and jails to build... it's endless.

Taxes will be like socialism unchecked.

Some folks smoke one cigarette and are hooked for life. Others smoke 2 or 3 packs a day for years and just drop them and never crave another. Same with booze and probably weed. We all might have a genetic predisposition that when it gets the right bait can hook us forever.

They would probably get more from taxing ice cream.

But after while most of the ice cream would be bootleg.

more like poisoning of the youth to pay fat pensions.

Aggression and impatience in long-term users, “lazy” sperm, marked impact on job eligibility (can’t pass drug test), failed parenting. Lovely.

One of the iron truths about taxation that politicians never seem to learn: revenues are never what you hope they’ll be. The politicians in Kali stepped off the train into Fantasy Land long ago. They’ll raise them.

“the sedation of the lower orders begins. our brave new world has begun. and nobody cares.”

People and animals have sedated themselves in the wild since the beginning of time. And throughout every great civilization.

It’s an inherent part of culture and our experience here. Interwoven through every historical event.

Even if you somehow outlawed yeast and plants, people would huff paint or gases from their own feces. Or choke themselves to get high.

All to escape whatever haunts them. If only for a moment...

Anything is possible in desperate Left-controlled California ... taxes on crack cocaine sales could even be the next legalized source of government “revenue”.

ah. gotcha. you’re pro-dope. probably a libertarian, and maybe even a single issue voter...; pot is your God. I get it

It's pretty clear, you get nothing...And ya construed all that from the other poster because he told you a fact?

It's like you're living in some backwater tiny town in 1960 Hogjaw, Alabama. To be honest, if they could somehow legalize pot everywhere while removing drunks from our roads and highways, it would be great and it would save tens of millions from grief, broken families, death and destruction.
