Almost 50 years ago I started BCT at Fort Knox.It was late 60's...Civil Rights Movement,etc.I was 19 and had grown up in the suburbs of the Northeast.

When I got there I found that almost all the guys in my Company were from the South...Tennessee,Mississippi and Texas.I also found that most were white and three or four were black.

Given what I had seen in the news for the last 5+ years I said to myself "Oh,God...this could get ugly".

I was wrong! There wasn't a *bit* of trouble by either the white guys or the black guys.No trouble in the barracks,no trouble in the PX on Saturday night...NO TROUBLE!

And this was almost 50 years ago.
