Here’s a good way to never advance in your career in America: never learn English.

THIS CHAPS MY HIDE. It is a pet peeve of mine.

I grew up with a housekeeper who even cleaned my room. Sweet lady, from El Salvador, didn’t speak a word of a English, just a few broken phrases. I left home, went to college, went to France for a year, traveled the world. Married a chef, moved to Europe. Came back.

I now spoke two new languages fluently and a third heavy dialect very well, enough to be thought a native sometimes.

AND THIS WOMAN WAS STILL UNABLE TO SPEAK ENGLISH AT ALL after all these years. Picture a steaming face emoji here.

...I think that is rather short-sighted as many Apple Store employees are very bright and passionate about Apple products. They should have a path to work at Apple corporate.

Explain to me how expertise at retail sales is related to the design of computers or writing software.

Going from janitor to executive involved night school, motivation and perseverance. If an Apple Store employee wants to move into computer design or software engineering he needs education and to re-apply at this very different part of the company.

I see no problem.

That is the cool thing about Slavery Lite. You can keep getting new ones fresh from Central American poverty. So you never have to treat them as well as YOUR KIDS. They are expendable. Just like the Slavery you want to pull down the statues against. Lefties are so hypocritical there needs to be a new word for it.

Expertise in a customer-facing position involving a fairly high degree of product knowledge informed from the customer perspective is an invaluable thing. Microsoft could have used an army of such individuals over the decades, but clearly did not.

Customers actually do make the go or no go decisions, ultimately. Might want to listen to them.

I am a security guard at the local power plant and wouldn’t trade the job, at least not for anything else that I could reasonably get. It helps that I have no mortgage and don’t pay rent and don’t buy anything that requires payments or a loan. Not owing anything makes a paycheck a whole lot more useful.

Tim Cook salary and compensation. Way to much as the article says for just keeping the lights on. That money could be better spent on training say janitors to learn english...

He also got 7 million free shares of stock.

FTA: In 2011, when Cook was named chief executive, the company granted him 1 million shares of restricted stock besides his normal pay, which essentially jumped to 7 million when Apple split its shares 7-for-1 in 2014.

FTA: ....Apple is far from alone when it comes to questionable pay packages. Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer could pocket nearly $125 million if her company completes an announced deal with Verizon (vz, -0.15%), even though the internet company’s core business dropped $3 billion in value under her tenure.

Two bedroom apartment, four children. No husband? The SF Chronicle is always short on facts with sob stories such as this. How did she get into this predicament? After having four children, you would think she would pick up a little English. No sense to go on with the obvious.

They also fail to deal with why the rent is so ridiculously high in San Jose:

Ramos, the Apple janitor, lives down the road in San Jose. She pays $2,300 monthly for a two-bedroom apartment where she and her four children live. Before overtime and taxes, her $16.60 an hour works out to $34,520 a year. Her rent alone is $27,600 a year,

Stop bringing in illegals and reduce illegal immigration and surprise, the pay will go up. Or they will automate.

I believe that automating jobs out of existence will create rebellion sooner or later.

That is why the islamic model so appeals to these people. A religion that teaches them to be submissive serfs to a caliphate aristocracy.

As usual, the liberals squeal about something and they’re the worst offenders.
