Brother-in-law and family rode it out in Corpus Christi last night. He's been out and driving around. Said streets not flooded and damage not too bad. They don't have power back, yet.

Sister-in-law is in Katy (just west of Houston). They currently have clear skies and little rain so far(appear to be between bands). My father-in-law's sister is a nun at the convent in Rockport. They haven't been able to contact her, yet.

Niece in Spring, TX (North Houston) reported via text plenty of rain overnight, and some area flooding, and some power outages in area. This was about 10 AM today.

We rode out the storm on Padre Island. We live on a canal on the Island, which is a barrier island just south of Corpus Christi. It was wild!

We had winds around 80 - 90 mph and about 9 ft. of surge. Our foundation is at @ 11 ft. Our lower deck was underwater and we had one window blow out and a fence blow down. Compared to our neighbors (and Rockport/Port A) we skated on this one. We have no power and have just now started to get water back. We’ve got generator power for the fridge/freezer, some fans and lights and are using a T-mobile hotspot for internet connectivity. It’s muggy, but BOY, we’re happy to have what we have.

With all of the hyperbole and dire warnings issued by local/national news, one never knows what to believe. So, we just gather as much information as we can and make the best decision we can.

Right now, the winds are <25 mph and we’ve had no rain to speak of all day. North and east of here will get more, going forward.

We’re thankful that we escaped with so little damage and pray for those who didn’t. It was a crazy, stressful, eventful night. But we’re glad we did what we did.

Thanks for all the information this thread provided.

Prayers up to all still in the path of wind and rain.

Just a reminder to folks that are a long distance away from Harvey - your gas supply may be affected. Example: Eastern NC - http://wncn.com/2017/08/25/if-harvey-hammers-texas-refineries-look-out-for-gas-shortages-price-hikes-in-nc/

We had at least one tornado touch down here in South Central Louisiana (in Erath, in Vermilion Parish). The warnings affected Lafayette Parish, Vermilion Parish, Iberia Parish, and St Martin Parish.

That is about 400 miles or more from where Hurricane Harvey made landfall.

Lafayette (city that is) is slightly more than 200 miles from downtown Houston. And Houston is about 200 miles from Padre Island/Corpus Christi...

This storm has a long reach.

Public schools are closed tomorrow in a number of Acadiana area parishes such as Lafayette Parish...

South Central Louisiana (Acadiana/Lafayette area) taking precautions.

Public schools (K-12) closed in Lafayette Parish, Vermilion Parish (previously ordered), Iberia Parish, St Martin Parish, and St Landry Parish.

I imagine schools in the Lake Charles area are closed tomorrow but not sure.

Lake Charles is between Beaumont, Texas and Lafayette, Louisiana on I-10.

So much rain is the reason, but we could have tornadoes might be another reason...
