Probably, having worked in a number of Irish oriented saloons and eateries. But their legal status is not a typical topic of conversation, so I don't know.
They’re trying to gin up sympathy for illegal Irish when they probably number in the hundreds, maybe thousands, but definitely not millions. You can’t just walk across the border from Ireland like Mexico.
I agree. My parents both emigrated from Ireland to the US after WWII. Legally. I have dual citizenship and love Ireland; have been there a dozen times. That said, the Irish have to play by the rules just like everyone else.
Ireland’s economy is doing well as Dublin has become a tech center for Europe. There’s relatively little crime and poverty. The violence in the north stopped long ago. Ireland could be a significant winner when Brexit is implemented as it leave Ireland the only English speaking country in the EU. If you are young and Irish, don’t bother coming to the US if you are looking for a job as a laborer, as the illegal aliens from Mexico have those jobs locked up and will work for much less than you would...
